Well, now I know why this movie was buried and barely showed at any theaters. It was kind of a mess. The aesthetic was very much like Hotel Artemis, which was about the best part of that movie.
Some of this film was easy to guess, and the reveals/twist weren't all that mind blowing. It made it uninteresting for me. The only thing I liked about Margot Robbie in the film was the amazing red coat she wore. The story line that was the most interesting out of the uninteresting was Simon Pegg's character. That was the only thing that kept me watching.

I didn’t realise that this would be as funny and as serious (at the same time!) as it was. What a life Tonya Harding has had. I remember hearing about the attack on Nancy Kerrigan and thinking how awful it was (I must have been about 19 - this film also made me feel ‘mature’). It was good to see the story behind that attack. It’s quite sad really, and I think that came across really well.
I thought the actors were really well chosen - Margot Robbie really was a surprise. Isn’t only ever seen her as Harley Quinn, and Tonya Harding is really NOT Harley Quinn!
This is worth a watch. Very entertaining.

I'll say from the outset, I'm a lifelong comic book fan. During my teenage years back in the 80's I collected John Ostrander's Suicide Squad title and absolutely loved it. It was always a given for me therefore that I would jump at the prospect of a movie based on my favourite title.

You know the synopsis I'm guessing (if you're reading this review) - government official Amanda Waller assembles a group of the baddest incarcerated criminals to go up against the potential of a metahuman crisis should the 'next' Superman not share our values. This is deemed more relevant following the demise of the man of steel himself at the climax of Dawn Of Justice. Amongst those villains are Deadshot (Will Smith), Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney), El Diablo (Jay Hernandez), and Enchantress/Dr June Moone (Carla Delevigne). Heading up the group is Colonel Rick Flagg (Joel Kinnaman), albeit reluctantly.

The story essentially revolves around Enchantress going rogue and converting a subway station in Midway City into a warzone as she resurrects her brother Incubus and the two attempt to destroy the world. The only criticism I have with the movie concerns the simplicity within which Enchantress 'turns' on the group shortly after it is her actions that cause the senate committee to approve the founding of Task Force X only a couple of scenes earlier in the movie. It just feels a bit rushed. It's also interesting to note that the events of the movie would never have taken place had Waller not established her little 'pet project' to begin with!

The dialogue is witty and sharp and the characters are highly likeable (despite them being arch-villains and - in some cases, murderers). Will Smith is the core of the group as Deadshot and his cold-bloodedness as an assassin is softened by the connection he has to his daughter (how the audience is expected no doubt to warm to him?). Joel Kinnaman's Rick Flagg is also key to the story's heart with his flawed relationship with Dr June Moone - Enchantress's alter ego. Margot Robbie is superb as Harley Quinn although at times it seems as if her rear's the star of the show.

What do I need to say about Jared Leto that hasn't been said before? You'll either love or hate his portrayal of Mr.J!

So, the hype on this movie was insane. I've been wanting to see it since it hit TIFF and the reviews began coming in. I've watched numerous things about Tonya Harding (the 30 for 30 doc--amazing), and I remember watching the news and that awful, shrill 'Whhyyyyy?' Nancy Kerrigan video.
I felt like this movie did live up to most of the hype. The comedy made it not so painful to watch the abuse, and I did feel awful for her. Margot Robbie was fantastic as Harding, and Sebastian Stan was completely creepy as Gillooly. Allison Janney did similarly well as Tonya's mother. Overall, I was pleased with it. The last act did drag on a bit, but I didn't mind.

It's so strange that they haven't wide released it, especially with the buzz and the timing (Olympics around the corner).

This isn't the type of film I normally watch but the cast swung me. It's the type of film that will win awards for the costume department and production. Saoirse Ronan really carries the film and without her I would score it a bit lower. Margot Robbie is sadly under used in this.
Tied up in a political, religious and royal game of real life chess as to whom will be heir to the throne of England. There is plenty of scheming and treason by both Royal courts. It's interesting but also at times a little dull. If you like slow period dramas you'll love it, if not you're not missing much.

This wouldn't normally be my type of movie but I did laugh thruout the movie it is cheesey but also fun robbie was born to play barbie I don't think no one else could same goes to gosling as Ken shout out goes to kate mckinnon who steals every scene she's in.
Overall good movie not sure if some of the scenes are okay for little ones but older ones will find it ok

Meh
A bit disappointed in this one. The action sequences were fun and the cinematography was pretty good. Where it disappoints is there story. It should have been called "Harley's Adventures" as she is the main and only constant throughout the film. Margot Robbie, once again, played Hatley very well, but the rest of the cast were just ok. The story was all over the place and, being that it takes place in Gotham- with Sionis and Victor Zsaz involved- it would've been cool to see an appearance from at least one of the caped crusaders. But, I get it, it was a movie made to showcase a bunch of women kicking ass. Anyway, it's an ok movie of you just want some mindless action with a few humorous moments thrown in for good measure. Worth a watch.

Great acting (2 more)
Great screenplay
Unique storytelling
I'm glad this movie finally came to my town and I was able to see.

Although I remember "the incident" and the media frenzy, I either forgot or never took the time to immerse myself in the details while it was going on in the 90s.

I thought the acting throughout was top notch led by Margot Robbie and Allison Janney. They really got lost in their roles and you forgot you were watching them.

There is enough emotional material and unique storytelling where some of the characters break the fourth wall and speak to the camera which keeps the viewer engaged throughout the story.

I was sort of torn to feel pity or empathy for Tonya or dislike what she knew, when she knew it and how she chose to keep silent.

Highly recommended.

As far as superhero movies go, you very rarely get to see villians team up to become the good guys. This movie provides us with the chance to see some of our favorite villians turned hero. (0 more)
The only bad thing I can really say about the movie is that the sequence of events kinda gets scrambled at first, bit eventually comes together in the end. (0 more)
Family Fun
All in all the movie wasnt half bad, what with the great all-star casting from Will Smith to Margot Robbie and what not. Our favorite super villians playing at a chance to become the good guys definitely does make an impact on us. We are always assuming that the bad guy HAS to be the bad guy FOREVER, this movie just goea to show that even the "Worst of the Worst" can be good on the inside.

Dull
I've never been a big fan of period dramas aside from a few exceptions, and I'm afraid to say this definitely isn't one of the exceptions.

This has a great cast but aside from Saoirse Ronan, nobody really gets their chance to shine. Even Margot Robbie seems drastically underused which is a shame. This film looks great, the costumes are very well done and the landscapes and scenery are beautiful, but this is really the only thing this film has going for it. Despite being based on an interesting period in history, it is beyond dull yet plows along at a very quick pace. It lacks in any real detail and just comes across a little confusing and uninteresting. I struggled to get into this at all and by the end just found it irritating, which is a little sad considering the talent in this.
