Kirsten Myra Edwards (303 KP) rated Retro Mini Games Console in Tech
Mar 16, 2020
Loads of retro style games (2 more)
Able to plug into tv
Lightweight for travel
Feels cheap (3 more)
Some games repeat
First language option is Chinese
No individual instructions per game
Lots of choice
Great console with lots of choices and helps introduce the generation into the retro style gaming we used to do when we were children.
I love the fact it comes with all you will need to plug the console into the tv to take the games to a more interactive with other players as well.
The console itself is very light which makes it feel cheaply made and I wouldn't believe it actually has 400 different games as some repeat themselves. Although there are some great choices including Super Mario and Donkey Kong there are some games you have never heard of.
It is very much you need to play around with each game to work out how to play it on the console as you aren't given any form of tutorial. Even some of the games you remember their controls are different.
Overall it is great for someone who travels a lot and wants to beat boredom but personally I would stick to my standard consoles with individual games.

Wealthy and precocious teenager Juliet (Kate Winslet) transfers from England to Christchurch, New Zealand, with her family, and forms a bond with the quiet, brooding Pauline (Melanie Lynskey) through their shared love of Mario Lanza and their games of make believe. But when their parents begin to suspect that their increasingly intense friendship is becoming unhealthy, the girls decide to run away together, hatching a dark plan for those who threaten to keep them apart.
The movie is one of Peter Jackson’s earlier works, and demonstrates his unique sense of directing which featured in his first few films. Both Kate Winslett and Melanie Lynskey give outstanding performances - Melanie’s scowling face is especially disturbing.
Based on a true story, Jackson focuses a lot on the dream world element of the girls’ story, which I feel gives the film’s ending even more shock appeal.
I won’t spoil the ending, but let me say that the first time I saw the movie I felt so disturbed I felt as if I was actually there, and even now, when I rewatch the movie, I still get chills when the girls are walking down that path....
I appreciate that the film is not going to appeal to everyone, but the amazing performances of the two main characters, and the horrifying insight into how deep obsessive friendships can go, makes this an essential but very disturbing watch.

Wonderful use of VR
I kept reading online that "Astro Bot Rescue Mission" was one of the best games available for PSVR. But at a $40 price tag, I couldn't take the leap.
Then a few weeks ago it went on sale for $19.99, so I finally decided to give it a try. And I was completely impressed!
This game really makes you feel like you are a giant robot in a world full of small robots. You control one of the little bots through levels filled with platforming challenges, but VR changes how things work. For example, you might want to make your character run back behind you. In a normal game, you'd have to mess with camera controls, but with this one, you just turn your head to follow him.
If he needs to go up platforms to a bridge far above you, you look up and guide him across using his shadow. If you look down and see a hole in the ground with a collectible item, you can guide him down into the hole to collect it.
Basically, it's like playing a 3D Mario game in a whole new way. I was blown away and played all the way through it, then went back to find the collectibles I had missed.
I would recommend this to anyone new to VR. And I get motion sick easily, but this game never made me sick. A+

After so many videogame movie adaptations to ever happen, I was ecstatic when this movie was announced but also very concerned aswell.
From the super mario bros movie to detective pikachu and every tomb raider in between, this seemed like it was designed to tank from the beginning.
So starting from the original trailer drop, I had no idea what had happened, I saw my childhood being destroyed by Hollywood and in a state of shock, looking very disturbing and more like a human/hedgehog genetic failure - sonic was in trouble and this time, Dr Robotnik wasn't to blame!?
Luckily the entire sonic fan base banded together & they were heard, this resulted in the team behind the movie redesigning sonic himself and the movies release being delayed several months.
On the plus side, the redesign was well worth the wait & was praised by fans and critics alike.
Since the release the movie has been shown so much love and is in line to topple detective pikachu as the best selling videogame movie adaptation in history.
Story:
As a young hedgehog, sonic was a wild child with an ability like no other who caught the attention of many.
This ability pinned sonic as a target and eventually forces sonic to escape to another realm/dimension -Earth.
After several years in hiding, sonic accidentally taps into his inner speed force (Ha!) Causing a total blackout & is then hunted by the evil genius, Dr Robotnik.
This brings with it an adventure, frienship & really cool & fun chase scenes.
A great family movie that does not disappoint.

Wish it had been made by Pixar...
Contains spoilers, click to show
At first glance this would appear, as some reviews have sighted, the new Toy Story (1995). Maybe it is, but I just didn't feel it. I'm old enough to remember these 8-bit games and even though Fix It Felix, Hero's Duty and Sugar Rush are all fictitious, they're all rooted in the reality of the industry, with their real life counterparts being Donkey Kong, Call Of Duty and Super Mario Cart.
The plot is basically that of any Disney film and this is kind of where it fails a little. This isn't Pixar and I'm spending most of the time wishing that it was. Tangled (2010) had the same problem, with it being good, in fact better on the second viewing but not as good the masters of digi-mation would have made it. But Wreck-It Ralph would seem to cry out for the Pixar treatment. Its similarity in tone to Toy Story, with computer game characters coming to life when the kids leave, rather than toys, as well as the fact that this is the perfect subject for a Computer Generated movie!
The comedy was decent, with more of the successful jokes revolving around candy, Mentos and cola, rather than the arcade worlds themselves, but still, plenty of references for the game heads, which my wife is but I'm not, really. It was fun and the final reel was exiting, with the running time pushing two hours, it wasn't overly long but still felt wanting.
I think that it would have been better if there was more that just one line cameos from the established arcade characters, but I'll say it again, that for me, this wanted to be a Pixar classic but just couldn't match the standards.

A Fun Quick Game
I recently bought a Nintendo Switch and after seeing the game on YouTube, one of the first games I couldn't wait to play was Party Golf. It's a simple, fun, quick game that is best played with friends.
There isn't really much to this game, but the different game modes allow you to spice up the gameplay with different powers and abilities which can either help you or hinder your opponents such as mines, force fields, explosion on contact, stick to walls, or simply keep hitting the ball without it ever touching the ground. It's fun to compete against your friends and see who can get their ball in the hole the fastest, and with different style landscapes such as Uphill, downhill, cave or Tunnel system, it keeps the party interesting.
However my only fault with the game is that after a few games, it can get old fast, and you can very easily move on to a different game and not feel the urge to go back to party golf until the next time you see your friends. It is simply a game for a quick but competitive get together, most likely the first game you'll play on the night to get the ball rolling, before moving on to something more mainstream such as Mario Kart.
All in all though I cannot deny that whenever me and my friends do play this game, especially when we mix up the rules a bit, it is an absolute blast to play, and it's a cheap game to buy so I would highly recommend it.

Darren (1599 KP) rated The Two Popes (2019) in Movies

Verdict: A Pryce & Hopkins Masterclass
Story: The Two Popes starts with the death of Pope John Paul II, the Vatican must elect a new Pope, bring the Cardinals from around the world together to go through the voting system, one the world is waiting to hear the news. Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio (Pryce) and Cardinal Joseph Aloisius Ratzinger (Hopkins) are the favourites to wise to the spot, with Ratzinger becoming Pope Benedict.
Jump forward to 2012, Pope Benedict is involved in a scandal, which sees Jorge return to Rome hoping to be granted his retirement. Pope Benedict refuses his request, as the two clash on their beliefs, with Jorge wanting to see the church move to the future, while Pope Benedict believes the church should never change.
Thoughts on The Two Popes
Characters – Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio is from Argentina, he has always bought the people together, he sees the church needing to not only let the future in, but embrace the changes they could never have considered because of their beliefs, he is one of the two challengers voted for to become the next Pope before stepping away from the votes. Years later, he wants to retire and isn’t getting answers, he confronts the pope, wanting to get answers, until he learns the true reason for their meeting. Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger was always meant to replace Pope John Paul II, he wins and becomes Pope Benedict. His reign will see him facing scandal before he decides to make a massive decision, one unheard of in the church. He has always believed in follow everything the church has before, which is why he gets challenged the most. We only meet a younger version of Jorge as we see his journey to rise to Cardinal in Argentina, while anybody else is usually just showing the two around.
Performances – Jonathan Pryce and Anthony Hopkins give two of the greatest performances of the year, the two legends of the industry shine carrying the film with their performances through the film.
Story – The story here follows the close election of a new Pope and how the Cardinal who stepped out of the race he never wanted to be in, is the one person that the new Pope can turn to in his time of need to save the church from a scandal which could destroy it. This is one of the most interesting and engrossing stories you will see, it shows a behind the curtain look at how the church operates, with minds that believe in a God, even if they do follow different beliefs with how they can connect to more people. We do get to learn how Jorge was given his chance in the first place, had experiences that Pope Benedict never went through to get to his position. The idea that this is a conversation between two religious men with differences, it shows how people can disagree without needing to turn into an ugly fight for no reason, they can respect their differences.
Biopic/Comedy – The biopic side of the film shows the private conversation between two religious figureheads that went through to make one of the biggest decisions in the church’s history, which is also done in a comedic way, where we get to see the two have a joke along the way.
Settings – The settings are beautiful from the country house to how the Vatican is recreated to make us believe we are right there with the Popes.
Scene of the Movie – The truth conversation.
That Moment That Annoyed Me – Not hearing the confession.
Final Thoughts – This is an acting masterclass from two of the greatest actors Hollywood has seen, it highlights the big change the church would take and how to have a conversation where both sides disagree, but accept the difference of opinions.
Overall: Acting Masterclass.

Does Anyone Remember This Game
Playstation All-Stars Battle Royle- does anyone remember this game? I guess this is where the term "Battle Royle" starting in video games. Now its "Battle Royle" this and "Battle Royle" that. Ohh lets put "Battle Royle" in Fallout, Battlefield and Call of Duty. Next you will tell me that Mario will have a battle royle game, ohhh.
Anyways, this was Sony's 12 year answer to Smash Brothers. 12 years, is a little late Sony. And uhh it shows. Were as Nintendo games were made by Nintendo, Sony on the other hand, is all over the place. I mean like Naughty dog to Insomnaic to San Monica Studios to Sucker Punch. So its not Sony itself, its hey were had this charcters on this system so lets put them in a battle royle. The ones their could.
The game features a traditional single-player arcade mode, in which players must defeat several randomly-selected opponents, followed by a character-specific rival battle and, ultimately, a battle against the game's main antagonist and final boss, Polygon Man, the former mascot for the Sony PlayStation in North America.
The game received mixed reviews. Critics praised the game's multiplayer components and gameplay mechanics, but the game was criticized for its lack of content and presentation.
The charcters are just all over the place, some of them dont made any sences to why their in the game like why have Good Cole and Evil Cole as two different charcters? Fat Princess?
Its a wired game and not alot of people liked it or know about it. It just came and went by.
Everything about this game is weird. I give sony credit, but 12 years is a little late. Ohh and ahh what happens when Ninento steals your main platform charcter that was exclusive to your consoles. Put in a different charcter that is not as well known. Cough- Raiden.
