Ben Mendelsohn
Firstly, this was a typical, Marvel origin story movie. They didn't exactly reinvent the wheel. BUT, who really expected them to?
I've been a fan of Carol Danvers in the comics since she was Ms. Marvel. For one, I was glad they kept her personality close to the comics. I've seen complaints that Larson's delivery of some jokes was flat, but, Carol tells bad jokes all the time and no one laughs (or, she did, I'm not into the new teen-centric Capt Marvel comics). Honestly, a lot of the story wouldn't make sense straight away for people that have never read a comic about Danvers.
Ben Mendelsohn was absolutely fantastic as 'the villain', and completely had fun in the role. Also, thank you Marvel for allowing him to use his real accent. SLJ was fantastic as the younger Nick Fury, and his interactions with Chewie...sorry, Goose (dumb name change) were hilarious.
The Kree weren't really in the film much, and, of course, anyone who knows anything about the Kree can figure out what's going on.
The ONLY thing that was a bit of a groaner for me was the source of Carol's powers.
Definitely stay for the credit scenes, that mid-credit scene made me hyped for Endgame.

Excellent value if you read enough to warrant it :)
Marvel Unlimited is basically the Netflix of Marvel Comics, with almost every issue you can think of!
It is subscription based, but the cost is only $10 a month, or $69 for the year, and with over 25,000 issues available, I'm pretty sure it's worth it!
A great idea, and affordable for the average person...or those that are rapidly running out of storage space!

Large selection (1 more)
Old and (fairly) new comics
Crashes sometimes (1 more)
Not supported on Kindle fire
This app has a very large selection of Marvel comics old and as recent as 6 months. They certainly don't have everything but they're adding more every week.
I had some issues with it crashing but those have died down a bit over time. I do wish there were more options as far as making reading lists as well.
As a note, this is not available on Kindle Fire. This is probably no fault of Marvel but it does affect one's ability to use the app. It can be sideloaded but does have significantly more crashes and freezes on there.

Very funny at times
New Heroes
Another Marvel film, they sure do churn them out. Can't say I've ever heard of the Eternals before but I'm not that familiar with Marvel comics. Like most Marvel films you know they are genuinely at a high level. This is no different. Plenty of great action scenes, the effects are very good, especially like the golden pattern used in the film for weapons and the costumes. Along with another battle of huge proportions.
In other ways it is quite different featuring a very diverse cast, using sign language with one character. The main stars of the film aren't the biggest names in the film.
Also interesting seeing different time periods feature as well as up to date scenes. It was genuinely funny, more than most Marvel films. Especially Kumail Nanjiani who is very good. So if you like Marvel action films this is another to check out.

Erika (17788 KP) rated Captain Marvel, Volume 3: Alis Volat Propriis in Books

FINALLY, my library had a digital copy of the 3rd volume of Kelly Sue DeConnick's 2nd Captain Marvel run (yeah, Captain Marvel's runs are confusing as hell). This run was right before Marvel Comics essentially blew up the universe for the battleverse.
The first issues involve Carol tracking down Chewie, her flerken, because she was stolen. they were generally entertaining. There was then a strange filler issue, which was meh, then Carol returned to Earth. A very strange collection overall, the first issues were the best. This volume also features my favorite Captain Marvel panels that I completely relate to...
Cough, Cough, had Larson actually read this run, she'd have known Carol doesn't wear makeup.

Good but not quite Marvellous
I was looking forward to this film to find out about Captain Marvel before Avengers Endgame arrives. I don't know much about the comics so from that point of view it's all new to me. The film is good and runs at a good pace with plenty of action. It follows a tried and tested Marvel formula the latest films have used. It's enjoyable but I don't think it's quite up there with the best origin story films or the Avengers series. Roll on to endgame!
