Merissa (11805 KP) rated Claimed by her Cougar (Cougar Creek Mates #1) in Books

Claimed by her Cougar (Cougar Creek Mates #1) by Felicity Heaton
Claimed by her Cougar is the first book in the Cougar Creek Mates series, set in the same world as the Eternal Mates series. By that, I mean it is set in the contemporary world, but with the same 'bad guys' being mentioned - Archangel.
Rath has kept his clan safe from Archangel ever since their attack so many years previously. He takes care of any Hunters who show up on his land, and spends his time avoiding most people, preferring to spend his time alone. He looks after the cabins of various clan members who also live elsewhere. His solitude is broken when Ivy shows up on his land, wanting to photograph the black bears. Once she convinces him she is not a hunter, they spend a couple of days together, during which she gets under Rath's skin in more ways that he possibly imagined.
I found this story to be excellently written, as I would expect from Felicity Heaton. How she manages to tie in a previous organisation, within the contemporary world, whilst introducing a whole new set of characters, I think is superb! There were no editing or grammatical errors that disrupted my reading flow. The supporting cast of characters were all intriguing, leaving me wanting more in this series, just so I can get their stories. Luckily for me, Storm comes next, but I also want Ember's story! Yes, I know, I'm greedy!
A great start to the series, and definitely recommended by me. Looking forward to continuing this series.
* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book, and the comments here are my honest opinion. *

Caffeinated Zombie (3374 KP) rated Man Like Mobeen in TV

Hilarious (1 more)
Tackles stereotypes
From the BBC: All Mobeen wants to do is follow his faith, lead a good life and make sure his sister fulfils her potential. But can he juggle this with his criminal past always chasing him?
This show is absolutely hilarious, set in Birmingham it follows Mobeen as he attempts to raise his sister, look after his mates (who need all the help they can get) and follow his faith. However with idiot police, the new drug dealers and (un)helpful family/friends life gets a little difficult.

David McK (3248 KP) rated The Martian in Books

OK ... I'll admit it: I wasn't sure whether I would like this book or not.
I've been burned in the past with books that have been turned into movies where (IMO) the source material just wasn't really all that great.
I also have to make clear - I haven't actually seen the film yet, so can't compare the two, but I did wonder how interesting a story told almost entirely from one person's perspective - with that person also entirely on his own, kinda like a modern-day/near future Robinson Crusoe could be.
Now that I have read it, I must admit: i did find this a gripping read, even if there are passages that just seem to drag on a bit. The story, for anyone who doesn't know, is about astronaut Mark Watney, who has been left behind on the planet Mars by his crew-mates, who believe he has died, and the efforts he goes to to survive, while NASA do their best to formulate a rescue plan (as do his crew-mates when they discover he is still alive, and now the only man on the planet for an entire 2 years or so).
The ending, though, is also a bit anti-climactic: what happens next??

Alison Pink (7 KP) rated The Sword of Summer (Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard, #1) in Books
Jan 15, 2018
It's no secret that I've thoroughly enjoyed all of Riordan's mythology based series. My favorite was the Khane Chronicles, but I have to say Magnus Chase is off to a grand start. Norse mythology has such a long & many layered history to it that it fits seamlessly into Riordan's brand of storytelling. As usual there is another great crop of characters as well as a tie in to his old faithful...Percy. I look forward to seeing what other adventures are in store for Magnus & his hall mates as they try to prevent the destruction of the Nine Worlds.

Leanne Crabtree (480 KP) rated Entice (The Violet Eden Chapters, #2) in Books
Jan 6, 2021
I really enjoyed this.
This series is very complex in some respects but oh, so good when it's on a roll.
I'm still half in love with both Lincoln and Phoenix <spoiler>though now Phoenix has gone all serious bad guy and wanting to revive Lilith</spoiler> - I shouldn't like Phoenix as much, though he doesn't always seem like he's enjoying the stuff he's doing.
The soul mates thing sounds amazing, though it also sounds heart-breaking/soul destroying :/ I hope they make the right choice for each other
Can't wait to read the next book in the series (just not quite yet :))

Sammeh Lowry (15 KP) rated Anastasia Krupnik (Anastasia Krupnik, #1) in Books
Jul 13, 2019
Anastasia krupnik is a 10 year girl who has a wonderful if not a little strange out look on life. She hates many things one day and loves them the next. She has funny but wonderful thoughts and ideas. I first read about Anastasia when i was roughly 10 and i loved her then just as i do now at 23. They might be a little dated nowadays but i still think they are amazing, i think Anastasia was the first Georgia Nicholson (angus thongs and perfect snogging) or possibly the mates dates series. These books still haven't lost their charm though.

Rise of the fallen (All the kings men book 1)
By Donya Lynne
In the streets of Chicago exists an uneasy, centuries-old truce between vampires and their distant cousins, a race of shifters called drecks. Vampire enforcement agency, All the King's Men (AKM), is charged with maintaining the truce, but when volatile enforcer Micah Black loses his mate and falls into the biological agony that results from the broken bond, he tests the boundaries of the truce by seeking out Apostle, a leader in the dreck community. Micah wants Apostle to kill him, a request Apostle is more than happy to fulfill.
When ex-Army medic-turned exotic dancer Samantha Garrett inadvertently disrupts the plot and saves Micah's life, a chain reaction sets Micah's heart on a collision course with hers, but he will have to protect her from Apostle and her obsessive ex-husband if they will have a chance at forever.
It was good and I did like the writing style of this author. I have read a few of these books with the hot tortured supernatural men finding themselves and their life mates and as it goes this was a solid book. I do like the fact it’s not just female life mates or love interests we are seeing!

Tainted Throne ( Crown of Frost and Blood book 2)
By CY Jones
Once read a review will be written via Smashbomb and link posted in comments
I went to Elyeria to find answers and ended up with more questions.
It’s too late to turn back now, and all I can do is learn how to play the game and quickly to stay alive.
I’m a princess from one of the strongest bloodlines in history.
There’s a prophecy about me where I’m supposed to save the world, unite the supernaturals, and become their Empress, while destined to have six mates.
One of my mates can’t be trusted.
His ex wants me dead.
The Queen wants me dead.
The Council wants me dead.
Why did I come here in the first place?
Elyeria was supposed to keep me safe.
Turns out, I’m in more danger here than I was before.
Who can I trust when everyone’s eyes are trained on a Tainted Throne?
My name is Winter DelaCorte.
I am the Lost Heir of House Storm
Well this definitely starts with a bang haha quite literally!
I’m really enjoying watching Winters powers grow as well as her story. The men are just super hot but also developing well. It’s definitely a good series if you enjoy the dramas of a court vampire or Fae. A very good reverse harem!
