The House That Jack Built (2018)
2018 | Horror, Thriller
The house that blah, blahblah! Another couple of hours spent watching artsy fartsy pretentious excrement that I'm sure some will assume is masterpiece of life changing cinema!
This director just doesn't improve with age, and although some may say that you need an open mind to take in all of the hidden meaning, I say invest your time better.
Matt Dillon is O.K, Film is Crap, be warned!

Almost very good
Another young adult book by Matt Haig, The Dead Father's Club is a reimagining of Hamlet. Even with serious issues, Haig likes to keep tongue in cheek and fill his books with fun and here's another one. A boys dad died and joins The Dead Father's Club, should he listen to his dad and kill his uncle or does his dad's ghost even exist?

"My friend Matt Connors sent me a copy of this fascinating book as I was researching the location of a specific Hockney painting for a video shoot and getting nowhere. The book shows Hockney's own photographic workings — scrapbook-like, notes on paintings, wonderful pictures in their own right — they show both a working process and reveal what lies behind some of the most iconic images in modern art."

I didn't like this as much as the first, hence the three star.

It was a cute story with some really sweet moments throughout.

Angelo was pretty cool, if a little troubled. Zach was just plain blind for half the book. Tom was a d*ck. And the reappearance of Jared and Matt from the first book was pretty awesome.

I will be reading more of the series.

The Last Duel (2021)
2021 | Drama, History
With Jodie Comer, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck and Adam Driver in a movie directed by Ridley Scott I just had to see it.

And I have to say I wasn't disappointed, loved the idea if the story being told by the three viewpoints which works very well.

The Last Duel is a well crafted movie that although runs at 2h 32mins it really didn't seem that long.

My wife! I think she’s dead!’ Matt frantically calls to park rangers, explaining that he and his wife, Marie, were out hiking when she stumbled on a cliff edge and fell into the raging river below. They start a search but aren’t hopeful: no one could have survived that fall.
It’s a tragic accident.
But when police discover Matt’s first wife also died in suspicious circumstances – a fire in their family home – they have a lot more questions for him.
Is Matt a grieving husband, or has he just killed his second wife? Detectives Loren and Spengler dig into the couple’s lives to see what they can unearth. And they find that love’s got teeth, it’s got claws, and once it hitches you to a person, it’s tough to rip yourself free.
So what happens when you’re done making it work?

Well this is one crazy warped marriage ride!
Seriously I found myself laughing at the antics and thoughts of these two at times; then on the flip side being gripped by the suspense.
I really enjoyed this one.
Read what happens when 20 years of marriage becomes a minefield of love/hate.
If you love psychological twisty thrillers as much as me then you need to read this one!
Recommend reading.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the e-book ARC to read and review. This is my honest voluntary review.

This is the second book in the Durand Duology and, as such, continues on from the first so you will HAVE to read that one for this one to make any sense. That being said, this book is written mainly from the perspective of Matt (only one small bit from Atty) so it gives the whole thing a fresh feeling as you learn new things about the people you know.

There is constant action and 'happenings' going on as a whole but the relationship growing between Matt and Atty is a slow-burner and all the richer for that. New characters are introduced and you learn just how convoluted the Durand world can be, as family trees and relationships Durand-style are explained.

This book wraps up the Duology in a very satisfying way but I would still love to read more, both about this world, other characters who caught my eye, and of course, Matt and Atty. I'm really hoping that they are the 'Forever' couple in the Durand world and am imagining (and hoping) for a HEA for them, no matter how many bumps in the road.

Extremely well written with no grammatical errors that I found, this book - and this Duology - come highly recommended. Absolutely brilliant!

CROSS CURRENT is the fourth book in the Olympic Cove series, and we find ourselves back in the war against Thetis. Matt has just finalised his divorce and is having downtime before he returns to his teaching job. So imagine his surprise when three Selkies and a Mer turn up on his doorstep. Oh, and his neighbours are gods, by the way.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story, and the individuality of having a pentad, and how it worked for them. However, I didn't have as much of a connection with Matt and the others, as I have had in previous books. As I've said, I enjoyed how their relationship worked for them, but being as Matt was with Fionn and Ailith, I don't feel like I knew Duncan or Ceit as much as I wanted to.

This book does move the overall story arc along, but you could also read it as a standalone, as it is pretty much self-explanatory. I think this is a good addition to the series, but it just didn't grab me as much as the others. I still highly recommend it though, and I can't wait for the next book in the series.

* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book, and the comments here are my honest opinion. *

Great film
This is Ridley Scott's best film in years. Considering it's about one man stranded on Mars, it's surprisingly interesting, full of humour and intrigue. Matt Damon puts in a great performance holding a lot of the film on his own, although the supporting cast are fantastic too. It has a really good soundtrack and is also very close to the original book by Andy Weir. One of the best films of 2015.

Courtney is all about putting guys in categories where she thinks they belong. Matt is young and feels like a disappointment to his dad. The story of these two getting together was great. They both have deal with their insecurities and trust issues from their past. I enjoyed this book I lived both of their stories and how they are able to work through it. Can't wait to read the next book in the series
