I loved hearing the story of the founding of Nike as told by Phil Knight, the man behind it all. He's very candid about their triumphs and missteps. (0 more)
The memoir ends right as the company is taking off and gaining traction, perhaps leaving the door open for a follow-up? (0 more)
Interesting look at the beginnings of Nike

The author in unapologetically herself.
Actual emails from the authors father (especially the author bio) was a breath of fresh air.
Relatable stories as a fellow minority attempting to assimilate as a child.
Although a comedy for most of the book, the author knew when and was able to be serious.

"Moss Hart’s memoir of his early years (he died too young to produce Act Two) remains the gold standard among books about the American theater. Fully half of it is about his collaboration with George S. Kaufman on “Once in a Lifetime,” Hart’s breakthrough success. It is the best description of the creative process of theater that I’ve ever read."

I received an ARC via FirstToRead for this book, for an unbiased review.

I am, admittedly, not as familiar with Shapiro's writing as many who seem to have chosen to review this book. As an avid memoir reader, and also as a "wannabe writer", I was drawn to the idea of reviewing a memoir. I was not, at all, disappointed with the choice.

Throughout the book, the ideas of "what if", as well as other writing prompts that she had encountered over time, intermingling with the memories of her family and her life, really brought the book together. I can see now, that I need to make time to read more of her work. I found myself bookmarking page after page, trying to remember details from it so that I could, in the future, use them as guides for my own writing.

Astonishingly Relatable
I never go into a celebrity memoir expecting much, but I was shocked by not only how much I really enjoyed this book but also by how relateable it was to me. There were parts that could have literally been taken from my life. As such, I devoured this book and have even been considering rereading it which is something I do not normally do.

This novel allowed for very interesting views into the life of Bruce Lee. There is much exploration into the mysterious aspects of Bruce Lee's life in this memoir.

I enjoyed how he strips the mythology of Bruce Lee from the man and gives readers a view into the "real" man underneath.

I would definitely recommend this to people who are interested in Bruce Lee.

This was listened to on audiobook on the drive from GA to NJ. It was a well told memoir and I am pretty sure the narrator was the actual author. It is a story about overcoming odds being stacked against you. This book made me think about things that need to be addressed if we ever expect things to get better overall in our country.

"When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi. Kalanithi’s brave memoir chronicles in exquisite prose his brave battle with terminal illness, but rather than verge into depressing territory, it is a triumphant and inspiring read. His words make one rethink our perception of time—to not only imagine what we might achieve in the future, but to cherish the beauty that surrounds us in the present"

"Anne’s frank, witty memoir of her incredible life within the nexus of British aristocracy—born the daughter of an earl, she was lady-in-waiting to Princess Margaret and married to one of the most colorful eccentrics of the 20th century, Colin Tennant, the man who bought a barren rock in the Caribbean and turned it into the fabled jet-set paradise of Mustique."

"This beautiful memoir takes us on Tembi’s personal journey of love, parenthood, and ultimately the loss of her husband, Saro. She learns to heal in the most beautiful way—through the support of three generations of women—and yes, there’s Italian food. Lots and lots of Italian food! I can’t wait for you to fall in love with this book the way I did."
