I am not sure how to go about reviewing this book. This is actually the first book I have ever DNFed.
I decided to do this at 40%. I had a hard time reading this book because all it did was bashed Vance about his Memoirs. I have read Hillbilly Elegy and I never thought of things these editors are talking about. I have a hard time of people bashing someone memoirs. Memoirs are how people feel and from their point of view. I know by looking at the ratings on Good Reads I am the only one who feels this way. I really don't want to bash these editors so I will leave it at this. Sorry but I just couldn't continue.

My thoughts: I won this book from The Shady Glade, and I didn’t know if I wanted to review it or not. I started it. I couldn’t stop.
It’s a collection of six-word memoirs by teens all over the place, and it’s fabulous. Some were inspiring, some were depressing. i sat on my bed and whispered them aloud to myself for thirty minutes. (it’s a short book.) it was enthralling.

I couldn’t really get into this book, but I’ll readily admit that memoirs and biographies are not my usual reading fare. I had listened to another autobiographical audiobook just before this one and thought I’d enjoy this one just as much, but no luck.
Ther wer parts of this book that were funny (expected) and parts that were insightful (pleasantly surprising), but a lot that was just meh.
It would be good reading for anyone interested in the improve scene.

"What did I think?" you ask. Well, I can sum that up in 1 word...HILARIOUS! Memoirs aren't typically my thing, but it was impossible not to fall in love with this one. Jen writes with an effortless yet descriptive style. She's not too high brow, but manages to sound like a writer who also happens to be a normal, every day person. The anecdotes she shares are, by turns, hilarious, scary, & heart felt...like any normal person's life.
This book was easy to read & hard to put down.

Not really a book about war, this is more a book about how the experiences of war affect people: in particular, how it affects its main protaganists, primarily told as the memoirs of one of those characters.
While it jumps around a bit - sections with events set before the preceding chapter, then forward again to events after the first section, then back again ... - it is quite an enjoyable read, which pulls no punches when it comes to the horror of th war, both in the trenches and in the air.

For a memoir, I was pleasantly surprised by this one. While I’m not a huge fan of memoirs, and a particular fan of Carrie Fisher, I am a fan of Star Wars and strong female role models.
I’d never read any of Fisher’s work before this and was delighted with her sense of humor.
She really does just focus on her life leading up to landing the role of Princess Leia and on the time during and just after filming. She does touch a bit on how the role has continued to impact her life experiences towards the end.
