Through The Fire And Flames
Stunning and tragic, Deepwater Horizon tells the story of the men on the oil rig that became the catalyst for the BP oil spill, one of the worst man made disasters in recent memory. Wahlberg, Russell and Malkovich are all great in their respective roles, but for me this film was slightly overrated. There was a lot of Oscar buzz surrounding it at the time of release and while I am a fan of Wahlberg, I don't see what he did in this movie to constitute the vast amount of praise he received. It is still a good movie and well made technically as well.

Brutal
A very good film...in the end and a bit odd as well. The first 20mins I found very slow and dull. I was worried this could be a low budget shocker that was over hyped. Once the film got going though it is pretty relentless until the end. The violence is very brutal, gritty and disturbing. For once in a film it was quite realistic. The only down side was the twist towards the end which left many questions unanswered. Maybe a film that needs to be watched more than once to get a better understanding of it. Overall a good British thriller that will last long in the memory after viewing.

Jason wakes up on a bus in the middle of a desert with his best friend and girlfriend. The only problem is, he has no memory of them or who he is. Finding out he's a demi-god is no real help. Will a quest bring him closer to his memories? This is the first in the follow up series to Percy Jackson, and I really enjoyed it. The book could have been trimmed somewhere, but I was having so much fun I really didn't care. And the new characters felt absolutely real to me.

I can't stop playing this game. It's fun because you can choose furniture and decorations to make a nice living space. You win some items based on voting from other players. You can even purchase the real furniture for your own home if you were so inclined. The only disappointing features are that you have to earn the game money to purchase things for your next room so sometimes your design might not be exactly how you'd want. Also it really hogs memory. Otherwise, I really enjoy the creativity and the challenge.

"When a young girl is sent to live with her uncle after the death of her parents, his manner and sorrow leaves her feeling bitterly alone. Neglected once again, she begins exploring the estate and discovers a garden that has become hidden and, aided by one of the servant's boys, begins restoring it to its former glory."

A lovely trip down memory lane, my Mum and I read this when I was just a little girl.
A great story for young and old, with life lessons I think more people could use these days.

Lying on the floor of her flat in Cherry Tree, 84-year-old Florence thinks about her past and present. She wonders about the new resident who closely resembles a man from her youth. A man her and Elsie had tried to forget. Joanna Cannon has written a wonderful exploration of old age, nostalgia and memory and cleverly combined it with solving a mystery from the past. There are moments of complete wisdom and some of naivety and a few that were poignant and funny. This is a profound book that has been praised for it’s tenderness but it made me laugh out loud as much as contemplate the pros and cons of old age.

Minor entry in the annals of British botanical horror proves that Orson Welles wasn't the only one whose career took a nosedive after Citizen Kane. George Coulouris does the best he can as a scientist so mad he thinks you should keep trees in a basement, but you can see the melancholy in his eyes throughout.

Essentially an attempt to transplant, or in this case re-pot, the US Z-movie horror formula to a British context, but this just makes the results weirder rather than appreciably better. Fabulous insights into assumptions about gender politics and other cultures, obviously. The killer tree itself will linger in your memory, though not in the way the film-makers would have hoped.
