"I just love the songs on this. I’m not into the whole religious aspect of the band but I’ve been a fan since I saw them on Top Of The Pops doing ‘Fire’. The reason that I picked this over Achtung Baby - which is one of my favourite U2 albums from my favourite period of U2 – is that it’s just a massive album for me. When I get time to have a quiet moment on my own, I could sit and play all the songs off this on an acoustic guitar for ages. They’re just great. You don’t like it? I don’t give a fuck! Everyone that I’ve ever known – EVER KNOWN – apart from my wife – hates them. Me and my wife love them. It wasn’t the reason we got married… But everyone else I have ever met from my earliest memory in Manchester to right now talking to you has gone, 'They are fucking shit. They are what’s wrong with music.' For me it’s about the songwriting. If I could write a song like ‘Running To Stand Still’ and ‘Nobody’s Home’ by Pink Floyd then I could die happy with never writing another song again."

"I would’ve been fourteen or fifteen years old and in Wisconsin when I heard this. I was in high school and there was somebody who had some shared interests and liked certain kinds of music. I'd never heard the Ramones before and he said I had to hear them, so he let me borrow his Ramones album. This would’ve been around ‘78 or ‘79 maybe. “That’s the strongest memory I have of putting a needle on an album and hearing something I’d never heard before. It was instant and immediate - 'this sounds so good'. I feel like there’s ‘before I heard the Ramones’ and then ‘after I heard the Ramones’ as a point in time for me, because it was the strongest feeling I ever had of hearing something on an album and within a couple of seconds going ‘'Yes, this is amazing.' “I thought, ‘I’m so late to find out about them’ because they had already been around for three or four years, and ‘Wow, what a shame that I found out about them this late, after they’d been around so long.’ Now, looking back at it, I think I caught them pretty early, so that’s good!"

"I heard that when it first came out in 2010. I've got it on CD. He was a member of the Flipmode Squad so he'd done his time already I think. He probably felt like an old bastard as well - he's probably older than me! You've got the obvious misogyny in there and there was lots of that, but there was this real interest in the history of the pimp, which is a controversial subject, but it's almost like he's done his research on it and looked at it in a political sense. It's not just blatant misogyny as well, but then it is, it swipes over to that, and then it swipes over to gang on the corner, shooting, drugs. I get the impression that a lot of the time this is stuff he has observed. A lot of the time, these rappers like Conway the Machine and West Side Gunn, used to be dealers but had to step out of it to go professional. So they have this whole memory bank of experiences to draw from and then in that environment it's probably very close to you."

Paths of Glory (1957)
Paths of Glory (1957)
1957 | Classics, Drama, War

"If 1956’s The Killing set the scene for a visionary new director, Paths of Glory, released a year later confirms it. Adapted from a novel that had
appeared two decades earlier, the film has gained stature over the years. It is the
darkest evocation of war ever filmed; you feel the pain, the fear and discomfort
experienced by French soldiers engaged in a meaningless, suicidal battle with
a faceless German enemy. The cast of American actors convincingly portray
heartless French officers and outnumbered enlisted men. Kirk Douglas gives his best performance as Colonel Dax, as does Adolphe Menjou as Dax’s antagonist, General Broulard. You can see Kubrick’s early influences,
Orson Welles and Max Ophüls, in his camerawork and editing style, but the
film is totally original and powerful, and even has a touch of
sentimentality in the final sequence. The famous tracking shots in the trenches
accompanied by the constant drumbeat of bombs and artillery will remain in your memory long after you’ve experienced the film. The contrast between the
high-living generals and the downtrodden soldiers is also a constant reminder
of the folly and inequity of war."

Seeing and enjoying the peculiar adventure of sharkboy and Lavagirl as a young teen a sequel was always wanted, when first advertised I had another Sonic The Hedgehog movie moment like "OH NO"

As a father with two monsters of my own who love sharkboy & Lavagirl they watched this before me and edged me to watch it with them...

Anyway, graphics continued from SB&LG was an appreciated touch as million dollar graphics don't always make the movie (although they help) a random casting with cute but weak acting and a plot unworthy of it's predecessor, we can be heroes is a nostalgic walk down memory lane that is both family friendly, fun (at least were the adult heroes are involved) and is more like a preschool edition of Disney's Sky High movie.

Best thing about the movie was the return of original Lavagirl actress Taylor dooley.

Appreciate the effort by Netflix, but maybe something more for the original fans next time around.

Plot: children of heroes attempt to rescue captured parents from an "evil" alien invasion ......or something like that.
