A good (mostly) standalone book following loosely from the events in the First Law trilogy. Some familiar faces appear, though some only briefly. A gang of mercenaries are recruited to disrupt relations and generally pee-off those who have wronged Murcatto.

The second - although I read/listened to it third - in a new(ish) series of Canonical Alien stories, this one is set even further in the future than the previous entry (Alien: River of Pain) and follows a descendant of Ellen Ripley, Alan Decker, who is an empath and who is forced to join a team of mercenaries investigating a dig on the planet known as New Galveston: a dig that has unearthed something that is probably better left forgotten …
Yep, Weyland-Yutanio is at it again, sending in a team of unprepared and ill-advised soldiers (or, here, mercenaries) in an attempt to gather a 'specimen' alive: a team that, of course - with a few exceptions - finds itself completely outclassed by the Xenomorph, who are here shown to hold a particularly impressive millennial-old grudge against 'The Destroyer', one Ellen Ripley (or her descendants).

When I first saw the trailer for this movie I knew I had to see it I mean santa claus going full die hard on a group of mercenaries it shouldn't work but it does David harbour as santa is brilliant as is John leguizamo as the main mercenarie who gets some good lines in this also there are some good kills but less said about some of the family members who really suck as characters overall good film
David McK (3425 KP) rated Tyrant (Tyrant, #1) in Books

I read this book years ago, and had rated it (by memory) with 1 star on Goodreads. Having recently re-read it, I now think that might be a bit harsh.
On the other hand, 2 stars might be a bit generous.
I found this heavy going, slow to start, and not really all that exciting. It's unusual in that it is set in the time of Alexander (the Great), but this Alexander - or more particularly - his army, are actually the villains of the piece, with Kineas and his band of Mercenaries fighting against the invading Macedonians in the company of the Scyths.
Not impressed over all.

No Church In The Wild
Safe House- is a decent action thriller with a great supporting cast. Denzel charcter's always have cool names.
The plot: For the past year, rookie CIA agent Matt Weston (Ryan Reynolds) has been eager to prove himself while cooling his heels at an inactive South African post. He gets the chance when Tobin Frost (Denzel Washington), a turncoat operative, is brought to Weston's safe house for debriefing. But soon after Frost's arrival, mercenaries attack, and Weston and Frost barely escape with their lives. The two men must join forces and try to stay alive long enough to figure out who wants them dead.
Like i said before its a decent to good action thriller with a great supporting cast.
