Silly plot (1 more)
Not funny
Far from the title
Rather dull, silly Rom-Com starring Sarah Michelle Gellar. Very little comedy and a silly side plot of a magic crab. Hard to think this was the same year she did @Cruel Intentions (1999) watch that instead.
I listened to the audio of this memoir from the former First Lady of the USA and it was beautifully narrated by the author. There is something special about listening to a memoir as read by the person who experienced it, it makes it a very personal experience. I was sucked into the life of Michelle and was moved by her highs and lows.
Taking us from her humble beginnings right through to the last days at the White House we get a very big picture of the life of Michelle. On the whole I found it interesting and at some points very moving (Ok I admit it I cried.) It was great to get an insight into worlds I know little about and she comes across as a very motivated and determined lady.
I loved they way she told various anecdotes from throughout her life but especially of her experiences in the White House. Considering some of the level of detail in her earlier life I was a little disappointed not to get more on the White House years we seemed to go through several with little coverage, which considering it wasn’t a short book seemed a little lopsided.
I did find myself losing focus sometimes but I have little interest in experiences around raising children and a few other areas that just didn’t come to life for me. All in all a worthwhile if lengthy listen that Michelle makes memorable.

Michelle Serrano runs the chocolate part of Chocolate and Chapters, the combined chocolate and bookstore she owns with her best friend Erica. But one morning, she walks into their store to find their business neighbor Denise dead from a poisoned truffle. Now Michelle has to find the killer to clear her reputation.
These characters grew on me quickly, and I really came to care for them. I can’t wait to find out what happens to them in future books. The plot got a little sidetracked at the end, but it still had an exciting climax. Plus there were some twists along the way that confused me, but in a good way.

the second book in the series and follows the tory of one of the characters from the first book. this story starts at the beginning of book one, so you read about the characters from the first book again, which is a little disappointing. but it is a good book, the chemistry surrounding the main characters is intense. in this book you learn more about the backstage and touring that bands go through. the characters have to deal with a long distance relationship, using modern technology to make the relationship work. a good read.

Whatchareadin (174 KP) rated Steel Justice in Books

Michelle is a very adventurous girl. She gets is from her father, Max Steel. When Michelle is invited on the yacht of her father's enemy, Malcolm Microbe, her sense of adventure gets the best of her. She seems something she shouldn't have, and the next thing you know, she and her best friend are missing.
Jasmine Bronson is an investigative reporter in Eden Cove, she fights hard to get the story she wants. Taking on a new job and trying to prove herself, she comes across something that forces her to join up with Max Steel to find Michelle.
Steel Justice was a great book. I will admit that about 1/3 of the way through, I got a little bored and wondered when the adventure was going to come back. At 50% through the end, it was hard to put it down. At the beginning you are introduced to a lot of different characters that make you wonder how all of these people play a part in the disappearance of one girl. So many things going on in this picturesque town in Australia. You're not sure if you want to visit, or steer clear. There are different parts of this story that all come together at the end. You have to stick around for the finale. It's a great story and I look forward to reading more books by this author.

Kelly (279 KP) rated Venom (2018) in Movies

Enjoyable
Having been nagged by my teen son to watch this movie for some time, I finally got around to watching it. I have to say, I was dubious about Tom Hardy playing the main character to begin with, however I was pleasantly surprised. Hardy was well cast and injected a sense of humour and fun into the role. I did find that Michelle Williams was poorly cast as Hardy’s girlfriend. I found the chemistry between Hardy and Williams was lacking, and Williams was a little wooden in parts.
The plot line was humorous and easy to follow, my teen son loved it. At times, I found the graphics, particularly Venom, were a little cheesy, but I think this was part of the nature of the film.
The film was not overly long, so did not drag out. All in all, an enjoyable watch.

Dull and boring
I've never read the book or seen any previous adaptations, or indeed any other Poirot stories or any Agatha Christie novels at all. And all I can say is that I hope this film isn't a reflection on the rest of her work.
The film starts well, with a fun introduction to Poirot and Kenneth Branagh is probably the best thing about the film in general. He does a fantastic job as Poirot for the most part, very believable as a Belgian.
However before the murder even takes place, the film starts to dip and gets a little dull. The murder itself is presented in such an uninteresting way and the cinematography at times is a little bizarre. Some of the camera shots don't work and some seem ridiculously cheesy how they're staged. The questioning of the suspects does little to bring any tension or intrigue, and the star studded cast isn't given much to work with although some try their best to ham it up (Michelle Pfeiffer).
And then the finale/resolution itself is just completely bonkers. It might have been unexpected, but not in a good way. It was just very silly and not at all what I was hoping for from this film. Such a disappointment.
