Sophia (Bookwyrming Thoughts) (530 KP) rated Ashes (Ashes Trilogy, #1) in Books

Well, here's a really good example of one. Ashes doesn't go straight to the point until the end, as pointed out by one of my friends (in which I nearly pounced on her in English class for nearly spoiling the book), and well... – I might offend a lot of people (and I really do mean a lot that they might want my head on a platter), so if you can get offended easily by a delicate (and I mean very delicate) subject, don't click that button. Just don't.

But... I also had half the mind on DNF-ing, because Ellie was really annoying and she was getting on my nerves for about a fifth of the book. If there's a character (aside from little kid me, but I'm not a character) I wanted to shake every step of the way, it's her.
Going back to the stalling talk, Bick uses page turning tactics as a distraction, and it was a really good distraction, because there's always something happening and I couldn't see the big picture until later... way later. After it was pointed out (thanks a lot, mentioned anonymous friend from above). -_-
I still don't really see how the title goes with the story. Ashes? I'm curious if that's related to what happens early in the story. Inquiring bloggers would like to know.
Here's another spoiler: I won't be surprised if Tom returns in Shadows or Monsters. It's pretty obvious.
To finish it off, Ashes was action packed, but if you get scared easily or are faint of heart, then this book is not for you. It's really creepy. *makes a face*
I also lost my appetite. :(

Mothergamer (1546 KP) rated Death Stranding in Video Games
Jan 7, 2020
One game mechanic I absolutely enjoyed was the fact that there is a multiplayer, but it's not multiplayer in the way you think. You never actually see the other players and they never see you. What you do see is what is left behind to help you on your journey and you can leave behind things to help other players. You can build roads, bridges, ziplines, or leave ladders and climbing ropes on steep cliffs to help others on their journey. There is also a shared locker function which allows you and other players to donate weapons and items for use on your travels. Again, it is a way we as people connect to each other from all over the world. You can also give likes to the helpful things people leave behind.
Exploring the open world of Death Stranding is an adventure in itself with treacherous terrain, dangerous people trying to attack you,(known as mules) and scary ghost like monsters (known as beached things or BTS) it makes you take your time planning out your routes and how you want to get out of those situations. The performances by everyone in the game is fantastic. There are raw emotional moments in parts of the story that moved me to tears. There are beautiful moments that gave me cause to smile as well and I had such a wonderful time with this game. Death Stranding is more than just a delivery game. It is a story about the strength of our connections, bonds, and a promise of hope.

Bill Skarsgård‘s demented shape-shifting entity is a performance for the horror ages, as he yet again terrifies the Losers Club. Now all grown up but still suffering from their traumatic problems and insecurities, the group must reunite once again to honour a promise they made to each other all those years ago.
Stephen King’s mammoth book would always be a hard piece of work to adapt, but director Andy Muschietti has more to play with this time around – and he doesn’t hold back. Kicking off proceedings with a rather nasty homophobic attack, Muschietti sets out his stall for what is a nerve-shredding 160 minutes.
Fast forward 27-years and the Losers Club appear to be living successful lives, having left the town of Derry and their pasts behind. However, it is all about to catch up them when Mike (Isaiah Mustafa), the only one not to leave, calls each one, in turn, to reveal that ‘It‘ has returned.
It is fantastically well cast with both young and old actors delivering excellent performances.
In shock and not willing to continue the fight, the group are brought back together by their close-knit bond for each other and the willingness to end the horror that has plagued them for almost three decades – however, Pennywise is not going down without a fight.
Flashbacks between young and old work very well and connect the timeline and narrative with seamless precision. It is fantastically well cast with both young and old actors delivering excellent performances. Rarely does it ever feel disjointed? Skarsgård clearly has fun and his terror is matched by the inclusion of several other monsters, equally as terrifying as the white-faced clown.
The ending might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but die-hard fans of the book should lavish praise on Muschietti’s interpretation. The furious pace at which it is delivered will be more than enough to keep viewers strapped to their seats.
