Matthew Krueger (10051 KP) rated 8MM (1999) in Movies

Look at this Photograph
8mm- is a underrated mystery thriller, it was directed by Joel Schumacher, yes the person who destoryed and ruined batman two years before this movie came out. Joel Schumacher is better with mysterious and thrillers than Batman. Anyways the plot:
Private detective Tom Welles (Nicolas Cage) lives a normal life with his wife (Catherine Keener) and young daughter, until he receives a startling new case. A widow named Mrs. Christian (Myra Carter) has found what appears to be a snuff film among her late husband's belongings, and she wants Welles to determine if the movie is real or fake. Welles heads to California, where a video store employee (Joaquin Phoenix) helps him infiltrate the dangerous and depraved world of illegal porn movies.
Its suspenseful, horrorfying, twisted and overall a good movie.

I was looking to forward to this film with such a great cast and a legendary director behind it but was left quite disappointed once it was all over.
This was Tarantino showing us how great hollywood was in the old days and how they dont make them nowadays like they did then.Dicaprios character seemed like he was heading towards a nervous breakdown for most of the film and Pitt's character was just there, hanging around and being cool.
The best part of the film was the ending, that was tarantino at his brutal, bloody and violent best, loved the way that brandy the dog helped kill the manson family members.
An enjoyable film but for me the weakest of all of tarantino's movies so far.

Matthew Krueger (10051 KP) rated Upgrade (2018) in Movies

Seeking Revenge
Upgrade- directed by Liegh Whannell was a excellent, fantasic movie. Than combines sci-fi, action and horror into one movie. Think Robocop, Dredd and Terminator all combine into one movie with the horror espect.
The plot: A brutal mugging leaves Grey Trace paralyzed in the hospital and his beloved wife dead. A billionaire inventor soon offers Trace a cure -- an artificial intelligence implant called STEM that will enhance his body. Now able to walk, Grey finds that he also has superhuman strength and agility -- skills he uses to seek revenge against the thugs who destroyed his life.
If you like seek revenge movies like Dredd and Robocop than you will love this movie. Logan Marshall-Green is excellent and Leigh Whannell does a excellent job directing.

the queer rom-com we’ve needed!!
This film was so cute. Equal parts cheesy, romantic, funny, and queer. The hardest part about LGBTQ+ movies is where they fall on a stereotypical line or whether or not they’re coming out stories or coming of age stories - all of which have importance some places. But what we’ve desperately needed for so long is a queer story that is just about love and the characters just happen to be queer.
LGBTQ+ love isn’t any different than heterosexual love. Everyone wants that connection, that passion, that person to come running home to. This movie is that, and so much more. Jake Borelli is amazing and definitely someone to keep an eye out for. I can’t wait to see what he does next.

Playfully bonkers British comedy-horror, which plays rather like a mash-up of Mike Leigh and Dario Argento, as pastiched by the League of Gentlemen. A woman makes the mistake of buying a cursed dress (from a department store which appears to be run by witches) and finds herself assailed by increasingly bizarre events.
A knowingly silly homage to various seventies horror movies, but done with great style and deftness - the movie shifts from absurd comedy to something with genuine pathos to a sequence of the utmost weirdness and back again, barely putting a foot wrong. The pseudo-portmanteau style is a bit wrong-footing if you're not expecting it and the first segment of the film is certainly stronger than the rest, but this is a very funny and always interesting film.

Awix (3310 KP) rated The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp (1943) in Movies

Classic drama from Powell and Pressburger. The life of a British army officer throughout the first part of the 20th century is explored, particularly his friendship with his German counterpart and the women he loves (all played by Deborah Kerr).
Typically inventive and imaginative stuff from the Archers, with bold and witty transitions across time and space, moving depictions of romance and friendship, and an understanding that you can deal with serious topics while remaining playful and creative. Terrific performances and direction: acknowledged as an influence by Scorsese and (less predictably) Tarantino. Churchill tried to have the production of the film halted, feeling it was unpatriotic, but as well as being one of the greatest British movies of all time, it is also one of the finest films about what it means to be British.

for the life of me, i don't understand hitchcock
Of all the Hitchcock movies I've watched and heard about, this one is said to have been really good. I, truthfully, don't see it. I didn't like the plot, it felt really forced - and maybe that's the idea with some films, especially films like this where it's kind of an out-there story, but I just didn't like it. I think Cary Grant is great. I haven't seen a film that he's been in where he doesn't bring his best. I think he is the star, rightfully so, and I think he made the movie bearable to watch.
I generally just don't like Hitchcock films, apparently. I've seen a good portion of his work and they just don't do it for me. This one included.

Bostonian916 (449 KP) rated John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum (2019) in Movies
Jun 24, 2020
John Wick is quickly becoming a favorite franchise among many, myself included. Keanu Reeves excels in a revolutionary role that shows the viewer a type of action rarely seen before and never seen in the elaborate conditions and setting that is built within this world.
It's nice how this series introduces new characters to fight the titular Wick. They always have an original way to twist the story around and make this villain the most evil villain yet, even if that isn't necessarily the case.
I can't wait to see what is in store in the next installment. Reeves has publicly stated that he will keep making John Wick movies as long as people want to keep watching them. Well, I will keep watching them for as long as you keep making them, Mr. Reeves.
