Chasing Butterflies (Bad Girls #1) by Jennifer Labelle
Chasing Butterflies is the first novella in the Bad Girls series. In it, we meet Sawyer. She left her home town with her big sister and never looked back. Now, due to the death of her sister, she returns there, needing a fresh start. Her first night in town, and she bumps into the one memory she was hoping to avoid.

This is a very fast-paced novella, although it is an easy read. Unfortunately for me, I didn't really connect with Carley before she died, so the impact on Sawyer was pretty much lost. And while I understood Sawyer's reasons for selling her parents' home, actually moving back there to work didn't make a lot of sense. Not exactly a fresh start.

Still, this was written very well, with love a foregone conclusion so the declarations that came thick and fast actually didn't seem that premature. For a quick coffee break book, then I would recommend this.

This book was such a unique read. I personally highly value Denise Broadwater’s insight on how to come alongside each other during stressful times like moving or renovating a house. This book is listed as a memoir and a marital advice book, and it is both of those things; yet so much more. Denise is very honest about what she and her husband went through while renovating their home. Some moments you can really see yourself in the same situations she was in. There was laughter, sadness and frustration while remodeling their home and Denise vividly shows those emotions and how they worked through them. A very good read for couples just starting out or those who have been married for longer periods. I think even single people wanting to work out how to better communicate with the people around them would benefit from this book. This was my first time reading a memoir and it was a truly good first experience.

I give this book a 5 out of 5 stars for the valuable advice and examples that Denise Broadwater shared that I hope to apply to my own marriage. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to better learn how to work through stress and come out the better for it.

3.5 stars...I received this book from the publisher for review. I was given the uncorrected proof....

Rose Baker is a typist with the New York City Police Department. She is a very plain woman who does what she is supposed to and never what she shouldn't.

One day, a new typist is hired and from the start, Rose was mesmerized by Odalie. Odalie dressed and acted quite differently than Rose. Quite differently from most people that Rose knew.

Odalie and Rose became fast friends. Even moving Rose into her hotel apartment. She immersed Rose in her world and it was that immersion that sent Rose's life into a tailspin.

Set in the 1920's when there was very little work for women and even fewer things for them outside of the home, this book will have you wondering what is going to happen next.
