An interesting take on fairy tales!
I kept seeing this series being recommended, and I eventually managed to convince my husband to buy it for me for Christmas. I'm glad he did - I loved it!
The Adversary has forced the Fairy Tales out of their homelands and those who have survived now live in New York. They have their own government, and they are hiding from the general population in plain sight.
We join the Big Bad Wolf (who looks human - of course) as he investigates the murder of Rose Red. Other fairytale characters are featured during the course of Wolf's investigation: Snow White, Prince Charming (who is a sleaze ball!), Jack and loads of other characters. I can see the basis of the other comics emerging in this first one, and I really liked the bits at the end: short cartoons and stories about the battles with the Adversary and the Fairytales' escapes. Really good stuff!!

A fun romp.
This book was so much fun, and made me wonder why I hadn't read any previous titles written by this author. It's almost like Jackie Collins Lite. A fun, fast-paced read during which the reader does not need to expend extra brain power to figure things out, Bluff begins with the high-society murder of the century, and takes you on a rollicking ride with Maud Warner, Jean Sunderland and Danya, and various other quirky characters who help to flesh out the story.

I thoroughly enjoyed the author's writing style. The story came together pretty seamlessly. There were several small reveals throughout the story, delivered in such a way that they didn't seem like reveals. One of them had me practically cheering out loud - hell yes, ladies!

While I do wish there had been more poker involved, the poker scenes that are included are well done and interesting.

Hudson's Kill
If you have seen Gangs of New York then you know the period this novel is set. This book is completely immersive, Hirsch has done an incredible amount of research, to the language used, the the style of buildings. I often felt myself drawn into the period, even dreaming about the city in my sleep, his descriptions become so vivid. Hudson's Kill has pretty much got a bit of everything for everyone. It's a thriller, it's a murder mystery, it's a political and corruption rollercoaster, it's full of action, it has heroes , villains and enough in every page to keep you turning. All this and written in a way that is very easy and absorbing. Hirsch is a master and it is very hard to believe this is only his second novel. Hudson's Kill deserves to be celebrated and loved, a rare book that will delight so many and deserves to be read. 4/5

Deadly Detention (2017)

Yes this seems to have a Breakfast Club does horror vibe to it but it's more Dawson's Creek, if Dawson's Creeks writing went downhill and they did murder.

The acting is questionable for a movie but be perfect for a TV teen drama, the plot is paper thin but it's the ridiculous set up I have the biggest problem with.
So a bunch of stereotypes, I'm sorry I mean kids turn up on Saturday for detention but due to, I kid you not, a rabid possum incident at the school they are having detention in a former prison. WTF?!? Are rabid possums a big problem in America? Why are they using a prison? Surely there must be other schools.
So teacher is killed, kids are left with a psycho who wants something.
Murders occur off screen, very little blood and very little scare factor.
Yet somehow I started to enjoy the characters interactions with each other.
More Dawson's Creek then Wolf Creek

I liked the story line but it didn't keep me hooked like most murder mystery's do. Maybe because the investigating wasn't normal detective investigating. I understand this was the story line though. I liked the first few chapters then it lost me a bit.
It went into politics and I didn't like that as I don't like political story lines and how political powers sway things in books.
The author brought the characters to life by writing the way they spoke - this really ruined the book for me as I found it very hard to read. For some readers this may really bring the book together.
I feel the intended audience for this book are male aged 45 - 60. I didn't feel like a book for females. I wasn't sure how about some of the comments the main character made about the women in the book...he certainly likes the ladies.
I feel I was more hooked by the blurb than the book.

This was how a Spider-Man movie with Mysterio should be done. As an avid Spider-Man fan I was not disappointed in this movie like I was with Homecoming. The battle sequences were top notch. The struggles of Peter after the death of Tony was great. They did such a great job of making this fit into the MCU. Mysterio was affected by Tony in a way you don't expect. Even the "love story" angle wasn't overbearing. The love of MJ and Peter. They icing on the cake for me was seeing J.K. Simmons as Jameson once again as he accused Spider Man of murder and exposed secret identity. Yes that is how it ended. I know it's beating a dead horse but the "political correctness" still bothers me but I am so glad Sony and Marvel worked something out for the future of the Spider man franchise

Mumble Mumble Mumble Part 3
PG-13, PG-13, PG-13!!!!!! Why 😓 , why couldnt this one be rating R like the other ones, i just dont understand.

The Plot: Mercenary leader Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone), Lee Christmas (Jason Statham) and the rest of the Expendables team reunite when Mr. Church (Bruce Willis) hires them for a seemingly easy job. But things go terribly wrong, compelling the mercenaries to seek revenge for a comrade's murder. With the odds against them, Barney and his team are hell-bent on payback and cut a path of destruction through opposing forces, only to encounter an unexpected threat: six pounds of weapons-grade plutonium.

So which 80's star is in this one? Kellan Lutz, who? Ohh he played Emmett Cullen in the Twight Franchise. Glen Powell, who? Ohh, Im not sure who this is.

Anyways its a good movie, good action, good comedy and over a good time.

Always gets the bad guy
In the 16th instalment of the bones series by Kathy Reichs, Dr Temperance Brennan is travelling from Charlotte to Afghanistan and back again. With appearances from all the regular characters, Temperance sets out to solve the murder of a mystery Jane Doe, and the potential unlawful killing of Afghani villagers.
Temperance aims to give the girl an identity, and figure out just who is to blame for cutting her life short. All the while Tempe is dealing with her own issues, the lack of contact from her on/off lover Andy, her unconventional relationships with her ex -husband, her flaky sister and her daughter.
Reichs always writes very well, including using the correct terminology, allowing readers to get a grasp of how the characters are really feeling, and keeping you on the edge of the mystery with little tiny bites of the truth, dotted with the odd red herring.

382. The Salvation. A bad-ass western featuring Mads Mikkelsen! Jon Jensen has been waiting for his wife and son to make their way to America during the 1870s. Jon has been there for a while building a life. And on the very day they arrive, they are murdered. Jon takes swift action and violently kills these two pieces of shit. Unfortunately, one of those pieces of shit has a big brother named Henry that pretty much runs the town through fear and taxes. So when Henry hears of his brothers murder, he wants his own revenge. And sure they go out and find Jon pretty easily and take him in. They quickly realize that a man with nothing to lose, is gonna fight back! Like I said Mads is awesome! Jeffrey Dean Morgan is great as the bad guy Henry. And Eva Green, sure she doesn't say one word in the movie, is freaking great! Like Westerns? This is one to check out!! Filmbufftim on FB
