Whatchareadin (174 KP) rated One Deadly Sister (Sandy Reid Mysteries, #1) in Books
May 10, 2018
Ray Reid moved to Florida and didn't expect to have this much "fun". After meeting a few of the locals he finds himself in a twisted murder plot and he is the murderer, except he didn't do it. With the help of his sharp tongue sister from big city Philly, they get to the bottom of the mystery and find the real killer. This book was a real page turner. I kept wanting to pick up the book and find out what was going to happen next and why this guy would get himself into this kind of situation. The story is too sketchy to be convincing, so why is Ray in jail. Getting him out and getting to the bottom of things is what his sister, Sandy is going to do.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2346 KP) rated Maple Mayhem (Sugar Grove Mystery, #2) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Dani is working to set up a co-op for the syrup harvesters in her area so some of the smaller businesses can stay afloat. But someone has started to sabotage the farms that plan to join. But when murder gets added to the mix, Dani really has to dig in and figure out what is happening.
Despite several rounds of sabotage, this book started out a little slowly with an emphasis on Dani’s love life over the mystery. However, things really picked up in the second half. The characters were great once again, and I enjoyed spending time with them, which kept the first half from dragging too much.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2346 KP) rated Frozen Heat (Nikki Heat, #4) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
When Nikki arrives at her newest case, she's puzzled by how the woman wound up in a freezer truck. But then she finds a clue that links this woman with the cold case of her mother's murder. Will she finally solve that mystery as well as solving this current one? As a fan of the show, I was surprised they went here before they resolved the parallel plot on the show. But fans don't need to worry because this book goes off in a completely different direction. There are lots of twists to keep you entertained. Sadly, the writing is still poor, but you can still get through it.

Who Was Killed at the Party?
Pet therapist Caro Lamont is attending a fundraiser for a local greyhound rescue organization. However, the evening ends unexpectedly when a man crashes into Caro and then falls down dead at her feet. No one seems to know who he was, but someone must. Who was he? Why did someone want him dead?
This book wastes little time jumping into the murder, and it really doesn’t slow down after that. The book is filled with laughs, coming from some absurd situations and some eccentric characters. Yet the core cast of characters are still serious enough that we can care about them and the outcome. Caro finds plenty of clues and red herrings on her way to a logical solution to yet another fun mystery.

Sue (5 KP) rated Better Off Read (Bookmobile Mystery #1) in Books
Aug 13, 2018
Cleo Watkins is a septuagenarian librarian that is hoping to save her storm-damaged library, but all hopes are lost when the primary beneficiary is found murdered. Unfortunately, Cleo’s best friend Mary-Rose and her grandson Ollie become the prime suspects.
Cleo takes to the road in her repurposed school bus turned bookmobile and is on a mission to stop the young mayor from permanently closing her beloved library and solve the murder.
The cast of characters in this book are delightful; 70 something Cleo is all heart, her best friend Mary-Rose is full of spunk, close friend Henry is a complete gentleman, and Rhett Butler (the cat) is full of cat mischief.
This was a fun cozy mystery to read and I do hope the author makes a series out of it.

ClareR (5879 KP) rated The Affacombe Affair (Pollard and Toyne #2) in Books

A great, old-fashioned, cosy mystery!
I have really enjoyed the first two books in this republished series - I honestly didn’t expect to. It’s such a nice, comfortable read though. The storyline nicely plays out (well, as nicely as a murder can!), the characters are all very likeable (especially Pollard and Toyne), and the way they go about their investigations is really rather interesting. This is not a story set in modern time - it’s set in the 1960s, so before DNA testing and all of the technology that we have today. So the story hangs on old fashioned humans using their brains and experience to work it out. I like these stories a lot, and I’m very glad that Sapere books sent me a copy to read and honestly review!
