A Gothic period piece
I saw this billed as a period murder mystery so had to check it out especially with a great cast line up.
The production is great from locations, sets and costumes. You feel like you are there at the time.
Christian Bale plays a detective to investigate a grisly murder at the Military training base for America. He enlists the help of a cadet who would be wider know as Edgar Allen Poe.
It was a bit slow at times without a lot action wise, the middle section is drawn out too much. The plot seemed a little odd but thankfully the final scenes bring it back on track.

Solid Sci-Fi Muder Mystery
I received this novel via my BookCase Club subscription and am pleased to say that it was one of the better novels that I have received in my short time with the club.
The moon has been colonized by the dregs of society from Earth, with the entire population controlled by an enigmatic megalomaniac. It's a murder mystery, complete with a psychotic android, with a sci-fi bent, and it all works, for the most part.
I did see the ending coming, but it did little to dull my enjoyment of the book. A quick read, perfect for a plane trip or vacation.

Celebration Leads to Murder
It’s Cinco de Mayo weekend, and Josie Callahan has a full plate. She will be waitressing at her family’s Tex-Mex restaurant as well as helping her uncle with the first annual chili cook-off and dancing in the parade. The last thing she needs is to find the body of Lucky Straw, one of the cook-off contestants. He wasn’t well liked, but who would kill him?

This is a fun mystery tying into a different holiday, yet it fits the theme of this series perfectly. The mystery is good, with several elements to keep us guessing until the end. I did feel that the book needed another edit to smooth things over as Josie’s changing theories constantly confused me, but not in a good way for a mystery. The series regulars are as fun as always, especially Josie’s abuela
