Cody and his 2 friends Stevie and Brad, are ghost hunters not really having much to investigate, until a mysterious new artist displays his art at the museum of monsters that have been seen around the area over the years. Only now very peculiar things are happening which seem to point to some of the monsters being more than a myth!

A very well written descriptive story. You know where you are with this book no wondering what this that or the other is, as they are described in the book which really comes in handy when your not sure what something is. The close friendship between the friends is fantastic we all need close friends like that and are extremely lucky if we have them. An exciting captivating mystery that can be read again and again.

All of my favourite things in one book: historical fiction, fantasy, myth, retellings, Ireland and nuns!! What more could I want!!

Brigid is the daughter of a slave and a chieftain, and she narrowly escapes marriage to a man she doesn’t want, when a goddess hears her prayers. She helps her from this point on, and this is where the blurring between goddess/ paganism and catholicism starts - in a good way.

Brigid builds her sisterhood, cloaks it in religion and makes a safe haven for women in what would have been a brutal time for them. One of my favourite themes, found family, is prominent in this, along with sisterhood and religious politics.

I’m off to find The Morrigan, and I’m hoping that Kim Curran will continue to introduce us to the Irish folklore that I know far too little about.

Give it a Myth
Garishly CGI'd, savagely violent fantasy movie apparently aimed at people who thought 300 showed too much subtlety and restraint. Bad guy Hyperion (Mickey Rourke in a selection of funny hats) is out to destroy the world by releasing the Titans from their prison; the gods of Olympus can't intervene directly (one wonders why not) and get Henry Cavill to stop him instead.

By turns predictable and inept, and with some of the weirdest production designs ever seen in a mainstream movie, the sheer unevenness of Immortals gives it a certain novelty value to begin with, but the succession of scenes featuring eyes being gouged out, tongues removed, women roasted alive, men castrated with sledgehammers, and so on, quickly become wearing more than anything else. A bit like watching a cross between cut-scenes from Mortal Kombat and an off-year staging of the Eurovision Song Contest.

The story continues...
People are beginning to get used to life after The Doom. Most have adapted and built communities. Others, like New Hope, have gone beyond that , and are helping to rescue other Uncannys and slaves who have been captured by the Purity Warriors or Raiders, before they are put to death.
Fallon Swift has now reached the age where Mallick has come to collect her and begin her training. The training to help her become The One. This book is largely about that training, interspersed with news from New Hope. It's all really interesting , seeing how their society has developed. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I can't wait to see how this all pans out: Light Uncannys (Fallon is one of these) against Dark Uncannys, Purity Warriors and Raiders. They certainly have their work cut out for them.
There's loads of myth and legend in this - great stuff!!
