A Tragedy
This book puts a new twist on Greek mythology. The narrator is Chloe the youngest of the three faiths. The story begins when a young girl shows up trying to change her faith.
I love Greek mythology and was really looking forward to this book. Unfortunately it was terribly horribly boring. I didn't even want to finish it, but I kept going thinking it might improve. Sadly it didn't.
Chloe should not have been the main character. She didn't have a lot going on, and she wasn't particularly likable. Aglaia should have been the one telling the story, or at the very least it should have alternated perspectives.
Its truly a tragidy that such an interesting premise was executed so poorly.

As usual Rick Riordan does not disappoint! I am looking forward to see how this merges with Percy Jackson. I love all of these books because of the snarkiness of the characters that is not rude but funny and sarcastic. Also the fact that kids learn of mythology through these books is awesome. I hope he keeps them coming.

I've read a lot of novels based on classical mythology, and they're normally either really good, or really poor. This was definitely one of the better ones. Of course, I'm familiar with the story, however I'm more familiar with The Oresteian Trilogy by Aeschylus. I liked how the characters were fleshed out, and the story was completely engaging.
David McK (3425 KP) rated Mythos (Stephen Fry's Greek Mythology Volume 1) in Books

Stephen Fry's straight re-telling of the various Greek Myths, in more-or-less chronological order (well, as much as they can be!), starting from the Titans and going right up to Midas, leaving (I assume) Jason and the Argonauts, or the siege of Troy for future instalments.
A bit like Neil Gaiman's Norse Mythology, in other words.
