A fun frolic with the Gods of our time
Not my favourite Gaiman book but still a fantastic read. I love how he brings the idea of God's to life and explores the worshipping we partake in in todays consumer driven society.
As always the worlds he creates come alive in often painful detail. The characters are twisted and relatable and the darkness is punctured with laugh out loud humour.
Quick, easy and enjoyable trek through modern mythology.

Very interesting read. Well written and very informative. I absolutely love fairies which is what drew me to request this book......and I was not disappointed. This book has definitions, poems and a serious look at the folkloreand mythology of fairies. Some of the things covered in this book are Fairyland, Basic Facts about Fairies, The Courts and Divisions in Fairy, Fairies in Tradition, Mortal Interactions and Fairies in the Modern World. I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book from Netgalley.

Okay, don't get me wrong. I can see what people see in this series. I don't know what I thought I'd expect considering I generally don't like fantasy, and I definitely don't like Harry Potter. It's just not my jam. In many ways, Akata Witch is very HP, just in Nigeria. In other ways, it's so steeped in African mythology, it's a true breath of fresh air from the normally very European folklore that fantasy so often draws from. It's definitely a book I'd recommend.

The timeline and research blew my mind
I didn’t know if I was going to like a book purely delivering a take on Greek mythology, turns out I loved it. Circe is pretty much the sole actor on stage and she captivates you with her thoughts, decisions, deeds and most of all her growth into the goddess she was destined to be. The writing was superb.
I recommend this to all my friends to just give it a go, even if you think it’s not your thing.

A very odd mix of stories that feature a harvest moon and only the first by Lackey fits the cover, of which makes me think of fairies and moonbeams.

A retelling of the Greek myth pertaining to Persephone and Hades, with some added Norse mythology. A cute story, if a little thin on actual plot. I'll probably forget it by next week.

<i>Cast in Moonlight</i> by Michelle Sagara (Fantasy/Urban Fantasy hybrid)
Fascinating mythology and world-building, intriguing characters and races. If I hadn't already been interested in reading the Chronicles of Elantra series, this would have done it. Pretty much a perfect story that stands alone quite well.

<i>Retribution</i> by Cameron Haley (Urban Fantasy)
A solid short story dealing with a sorcerer and enforcer for a mob boss. Has some interesting ideas and is a promising beginning to a new series. While it does have cursing, it feels authentic and fits the scenes and characters. This is definitely not a story for the faint of heart.

I had high hopes for this book. The plot is right up my alley with the mythology aspect and I was curious to see where the author would take it. Unfortunately, I found myself jaded with it by the time I finished. There seems to be a lot to the story that the author isnt telling. I am not sure if she planned on elaborating in future installments, but she doesnt even give us enough to really be curious. For example, the female lead will make a mental comment about her master but thats it.
The leads were also much to be desired. There wasnt anything about the lead female to make me like her. In fact, I felt disconnected from her as person in general.
I think my biggest problem was that I was a disappointed there wasnt more erotica to it. We are given two scenes and they are so short I wondered why the author wasted her time. I loved the world and mythology the author created, but I guess it just wasnt the story I wanted.
