A disturbing read
The true story and crimes referred to in this book are something that I'm aware of as it happened in my local area (I lived in the next town over which is mentioned a few times n the book) but I wasn't aware of the full detail. And this book really doesn't shy away from giving you the full sordid details!

This book relates the experiences of Girl A, the main victim and witness in the huge Rochdale sex ring, and this is not a pleasant read and definitely not one of the faint read. It's hard not to get emotional reading what happened to this poor girl and it's very gripping. It's also very well written and is a truly haunting and disturbing thing to read. Even more so for me as this happened virtually on my doorstep in a neighbouring town.

That said, it isn't perfect. There are some parts that are mentioned heavily earlier on in the book but then are barely mentioned or ignored when it comes to wrapping it up at the end (I.e. what happened with her family). Also, this is a very one sided story. Whilst I have no interest in hearing the abusers point of view or doubt their guilt, I am slightly concerned about the viewpoints on social services, the council and the police. I dont doubt that there were massive failings here, however there are comments made about these organisations that were entirely unnecessary and seem to have been made to further negatively impact people's view of them. It's subjective and from working for the police myself, its not always as clear cut as this. They messed up, but this is only one persons view that maybe a little biased in the first place.

This one is Sin's - Sinead! - story, Lore(n)'s sister and the only female Seminus demon in existence.

We get to know her a lot more in this one and I feel sorry for a lot of the crap she went through. She tries to be this strong woman who can deal with everything but she doesn't want to be. So thank God for Con - who we met in Lore's book, Ecstasy Unveiled - and who Sin had sex with.

As a dhampire, a vampire/werewolf hybrid, Con is immune to the werewolf shifter virus which Sin unwittingly started in the last book and a great candidate to help start a vaccine against it by using his blood. The only downside to it is that as a dhampire, Con is susceptible to blood addiction if he drinks from the same donor too often yet he needs to keep drinking Sin's blood to fuel his resistance.

Feelings start to emerge beyond their physical attraction as the two are forced to spend so much time together and get to know each other. How he demands that she feel things instead of letting her body do it's physical pain release by bleeding. They'd both been through so much in their long lives and they deserved happiness.

They had a few ups and downs in this. Con had responsibilities within the shifter and dhampire communities and Sin was donating blood and trying to help those infected by the virus before they died and also to her assassin den.

And then let's not forget that last chapter! How cute was that with Lore? I've really fallen for this extended family. They all deserve happiness and I'm really glad they've all found it.

I'm looking forward to reading the rest of this series.

Look it!
The cover for Blood Pact with City Owl Press is Revealed.
This is the latest in Courtney Maguire's Youkai Bloodlines Series, a.k.a., gay Japanese vampires. *wiggles eyebrows* You know you want it.

About the Book:
In Hiro’s world, youkai are a supernatural story used to scare children into obedience, and to keep men out of back alleys and brothels. Until Sakurai Hideyoshi walks through his door with a fantastical tale of a samurai who had killed a thousand men and drank the blood of his enemies, a man that lived in darkness but sought beauty to keep it at bay.

A story both terrifying and romantic…and completely ridiculous.

Unless it is true.

Convinced something softer lurks behind Hideyoshi’s hard mask, Hiro follows him home. And discovers the story is real.

Only instead of the blood of his enemies, it is innocent blood taken.

Hideyoshi tells him never to return. Yet after Hiro’s mother is mortally wounded, Hiro runs back to the one being he knows with the power to save her. When Hideyoshi can’t, Hiro begs him for the next best thing: the power to avenge her.

As Hiro becomes youkai, he faces a new threat, something darker, older, and far more dangerous. With Hideyoshi at his side, Hiro must decide what he’s willing to sacrifice--and what he’s willing to do--to protect this new life before he loses everything for a second time.

If you like Bella Forrest, P. C. Cast, AJ Tipton, or Anne Rice, you will love this beautiful dark paranormal fantasy romance.
