A fantastic story if you like fantasy, assassins, and romance.
This story is about a captured assassin who must win back her freedom in a competition. First, she must prove herself worthy of becoming the kings assassin, passing tests and then winning the competition against other criminals and deadly foes.
As she fights her way to the top, she discovers another deadly threat of a more ominous and magical nature that she must face, one where she will discover who she Is and where she came from. This story, however, follows on into the next book, so read on through the series to find out.

I didn't know anything about this series before I borrowed the first book from the library. I thought it was probably going to be pretty juvenile, and that I'd return it right away. However, I'm pleasantly surprised. While it is about children, the book is rated for older teens. It's funny, innocent, and cute, and then it quickly starts going in different directions that make it a bit dark, frustrating, a little creepy. The only real negative opinion that I have about it is that it seems to have a bit of a repetitive nature towards this volume's end. I'm looking forward to moving onto book two, though!

I'd like to thank NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This was a very intriguing idea the whole nature/nurture thing but for some reason a lot of times the book just fell flat for me. There were a few moments where Addie's notions about life were challenged and I would have loved to see him interacting more with these ideas and technology.

Addie's is great for an unlikable narrator. Maybe a little too good? I don't exactly get the feeling that he'd actually changed that much by the end of the book.

Wow! Just wow! This time around I know exactly what rating to give this dark but perplexing read. I am truly enjoying the fact that I am still completely clueless as to the true nature of Six. Is Six an angel? A demon? The figment of Corbin's fragmented mind? The author once again reeled me in right from the start with her beautifully dark writing style. The characters are all stunning and unique and I simply cannot wait for the next book in the series as this cliff hanger ending was more intense than the last. It is indeed a pleasure to spend time in the mind of Nikki Rae.

This novel was many times funny, though it was not meant to be. The self-absorption and narcissistic nature of most, if not all, the characters make this a sort of parody of the situation. The character development and the clear agenda each one has feels very color-by-numbers and, even though they are one-dimensional, they are very realistic and relatable. The concept is novel although the plot is a bit discombobulated. I enjoyed the thoughts and feelings this book evoked in me perhaps more than the book itself. The exploration into the human condition and how the relationships begin to break down was fascinating.
