The Yuletide Inn is a cornerstone of Rudolph, New York, offering a nice place to stay and nice restaurant for the many people who come to take part in the Christmas festivities that the town hosts all year long. When the owner has a heart attack just a couple weeks before Christmas, his son Gord comes to town to help run things, but he immediately starts making plans for big changes – changes that could hurt the town. Merry is concerned about what this will do to her own shop, her friends, and family. But when Gord is killed, she has a new concern – find the killer before someone she loves his arrested for the crime.

I was in the mood for a Christmas cozy, and this one delivered in spades. Being set in December certainly helped. The author does a good job of setting up suspects and motives before the murder happens, but I did feel the book stalled out a bit in the middle as events pushed actual investigating to the background. The characters are wonderful and charming once again.

NOTE: I received a copy of this book in hopes I would review it.

Classic musical of the era

Claude Bukowski leaves Oklahoma for New York after being drafted to the army for Vietnam... He joins a hippie group of youngsters led by Berger, he
soon falls in love with Sheila before leaving the group for his new life in the army..

A great soundtrack with some memorable songs, backed up with some spectacular dance routines and settings make this a film you can enjoy more than once... It may have dated a bit over the years but the same can be said for some of the classic era musicals...

The initial feeling of annoyance that Berger left me with soon vanished and you do warm to the three main characters and to some extent the lesser members of the group...

It is a film about fun, freedom and most of all friendship and what you would do for your friends... I'm guessing the stage play it was based on was more of an anti war play, but the impression I got, maybe because so long has elapsed since it was written, is one of live for the moment, enjoy yourself while you can because you never know what is around the corner in life...

Neil Burger’s remake of 2011 French original The Intouchables pairs Kevin Hart and Bryan Cranston in a heartwarming bromance. Ex-con Dell Scott (Hart) is looking to get back on the straight and narrow after a stint behind bars. Needing to prove to his parole officer that he is actively job hunting, he steps off the tough New York streets and accidentally into the penthouse of Philip Lacasse (Cranston), a quadriplegic in need of round the clock care.

It’s not the type of job that Dell is qualified to interview for. His dry sense of humour, however, strikes a chord with Phillip – but not his frosty assistant Yvonne Pendleton (Nicole Kidman).

Hart leaves the majority of his wise-cracking antics at the door and handles the dramatic role to great effect. One or two jokes slip through the net but they feel delivered at the right times – at least we know how a catheter is put in place.

The pair work out each other’s personalities and over time Dell discovers a love for opera while Phillip enjoys the effects of marijuana and Aretha Franklin. It rarely drifts from the storyline of the original, but it doesn’t need to do anything new to make it enjoyable.
