Excellent
Rian Johnson is a genius.
With his directorial debut he crafts an excellent story, that features some of the best young adult actors in recent history. It becomes even more impressive when you realise how few adults feature in the film.
With a mystery that puts you on the edge of your seat, a murder, a drug den and adult themes that most would refrain from showing in this context, this neo-noir is a reminder of what is great about the noir genre.
Expertly filmed, edited and scored, with some beautiful shots that leave you breathless, this film will not disappoint.

Fun send up of film noir in pulp literature and los angeles culture in a frozen celluloid time capsule
Set in a decade where the comedy and homages work in todays modern popular culture. This unlikely pair lead the story in an unconventional take on the buddy cop/comedy as they work in opposition to each other to solve a dark crime, with a seedy leadup, all the while surrounded by the city of hollywood and its movie star culture. Something out of the pages of a detective fiction magazine. Post modern film noir in a brighter reflection of itself

Early 'tec noir; if it only seems so familiar now it's because just about every such book since has copied that style of pulp fiction: the hard-bitten private eye, the liberal use of the vernacular, constant rain and the femme fatale are all now hallmarks of the genre

Great characterisation (3 more)
An excellent adaptation of the graphic novels
Brilliant artwork & visuals
Compelling story
Excellent fantasy crime noir
I love this game - a great investigative story, with brilliant characters, and great gameplay. Probably my favourite one of Telltale's games, and highly recommended.

A classic noir from Graham Greene but not his best
While I wouldn't say this was the best of Graham Greene, who is renowned for his noir style crime tales, it was an enjoyable read.
There are plenty of twists and turns in this spy novel about a simple vacuum merchant turned spy for the British government in Cuba. His friend, a German doctor is suspected of being more than he is. There are plenty of assassination plots in this novel on top of escaping dangerous situations involving corrupt cops.
My only gripe is the fact how quickly the salesman was able to grasp being a detective without any training, so it seems a little implausible. Fun, but no Brighton Rock.

Wasted a great cast cast (2 more)
Poor executed
The twist was telegraphed from only opening.
Mediocre Film Noir almost saved by a bizzare yet intriguing left turn twist half way through.
With more effort could have been a classic. Instead it squandered a fantastic cast and an intriguing twist with poor script and mediocre direction.

I loved the noir feeling of this show. I want to know about the other 36 kids. I liked how it ended. It can continue or not. Either way works. I love how the dynamic of the characters worked. Sound track... Phenomenal. Good humor. All in all good.

"The Hateful Motel 6"
“Bad Times At The El Royale” sees “Cabin In The Woods” writer/ director Drew Goddard indulging his inner Tarantino as he sets up this lurid, pulpy neo-noir tale of deceit, desperation and death in a faded motel, still trading on its glamorous past and novelty location....
