Not bad for the genre

I watched this as i am a fan of the genre and when i watch these sort of films i inadvertently end up comparing them to one of the best films of the genre, namely Seven. This is not a patch on that but it is worth watching. Al pacino as the retired cop is always the one to watch, but he is well supported by Karl Urban and Brittany Snow. The idea behind the film is a clever one and its done well though i can imagine a lot of people trying to figure out what the hangman word is and what it has to do with the film. None of this becomes apparent until the end five minutes and its a little convoluted. i would give this a watch if you like your serial killer films
A group of ghost hunters have returned to the island to search for the ghost of a Prohibition era rum runner. However, when their leader gets murdered, Bea must figure out which of her guests might be a killer in order to clear her friend Kate of the crime.
The story is fun, and the way it wove a mystery from the past into what was happening now was great. The characters are strong, as I expected from the first two books. The humor I’ve enjoyed was still there as well. Unfortunately, the book had some serious editing flaws, including multiple characters getting the location where the body was found wrong. None of these impacted the final outcome, but it did detract from my enjoyment.

Cyn Armistead (14 KP) rated The Devil Inside (Morgan Kingsley #1) in Books

I finished this book and its sequel a week or so ago. They didn't make enough of an impression to compel me to write about them at the time. However, one issue has stuck with me, so I decided to go back and write about it briefly.
Jenna Black has absolutely NO understanding of BDSM, and she has done a disservice to those who do practice it. I am not an authority on the subject, but I have some exposure, and none of the activity she describes rings true. She doesn't even understand the equipment! That seriously damages her standing as a writer, as far as I'm concerned. There's more than enough information available to anyone who wants to do the research, and it wouldn't have been too difficult for her to find serious practitioners to critique the BDSM content had she cared to do so.

KarenRC (6 KP) rated The Key to Death's Door in Books

Never before has a book had me in such a mixture of feelings... I hated it in the way that it was so graphic and the Daryl character so abhorrent, but I also found myself totally unable to stop reading.
This was my first book by this author, but I don't think it will be the last. The writing style and character descriptions are second to none. The hate for Daryls character is matched only by the love for Lee/Pauls character and his relationship with Charlie/Bobby and that is testament to the author, in the same way that I think that the graphic scenes got to me so much, because I could picture them so well.
Definitely one that is going to stay with me, but not sure if I have decided whether that will be in a good way or not, yet!!

Merissa (11830 KP) rated Lady of Light and Shadows (Tairen Soul, #2) in Books

An absolute stunner of a sequel to the first book that picks up exactly where the first book finished. You will learn more about the characters that you already have heard of but one character in particular is introduced that has such a pivotal role in this and the rest of the books. There is more character "layering" in this book although Ellie's fey quintet actually play a smaller role than in the first. This is all to the good though.
C L Wilson is able to describe the peoples and the lands that they inhabit with such precision that you will be able to see it in your mind's eye without any difficulty. All of the characters weave together so well and each enhances the other.

“If honor were reserved only for those who never err, none of us would be worthy,”

A classic that didn't disappoint with its gothic feel.
A tale that in one way or another we're all familiar with so I won't bother to go into the storyline but I will say I was pleasantly surprised by the style it was written in. Switching between various diaries, news articles and letters this tale was told in more voices than I had thought and that helped keep what could of been at times a plodding story fresh. Listening to the audiobook narrated by John Lee he did a good job in keeping the various voices distinct and easy to follow.
Mina Harker is a great character, while some of the others failed to impress me it's no wonder Helsing has become a legend. For such a dramatic (and lengthy build-up) I did find the end slightly anticlimactic but very enjoyable none the less.
