Interesting premise
Another dystopia (1 more)
Overhyped
A solid entry into the fantasy realm but nothing to write home aboit
Shannon was lauded as the next J.K. Rowling by some but she didn't develop the same kind if following. Her books are good, not great. The world she creates, while interesting as not as compelling as others out there. In a very crowded genre, this series just failed to stand out enough.
Leanne Crabtree (480 KP) rated City of Light (Outcast, #1) in Books
Sep 5, 2019
I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this! I was hooked from pretty early on and despite it not having much in the romance department, for once, I didnt care. It was too intriguing. Too... well, not so along the usual lines and I was pulled into the story.
And despite what i said above, I'm kinda holding out for a Tiger/Jonas relationship.
Looking forward to the next book in the series!

Molly J (Cover To Cover Cafe) (106 KP) rated Phoebe's Light (Nantucket Legacy #1) in Books

I believe in giving honest reviews, and this one will be the same as all my other. Honest. My thoughts on this book? Ugh. That's right. Ugh. I was very disappointed in how this book turned out. I am usually a big fan of all of Suzanne Woods Fisher's novels but this one was......well, frankly, bland. Very bland. I could not get into it easily. It took me many tries to actually get to the end of the story and by that point I was so frustrated with the way it was written that it lost all appeal to me.
That said, I personally can not give this book more than 2 stars. However, just because I found the characters lacking and the story line flat, does not mean that you or someone you know may feel the same way, so I do still encourage you to give it a try. It's just not a book for me. Does this mean I have given up on reading Suzanne's books? Absolutly not. Sometimes, an author goes through down times just like every person in life. I will definitely give the next book in this series a try and hope that it's not quite so bland.
*I received a complimentary copy of this book from Revell Books and was under no obligation to post a review, positive or negative.*

Whatchareadin (174 KP) rated 1022 Evergreen Place (Cedar Cove, #10) in Books
May 10, 2018
While this book was a good book, there were way too many people to keep up with. It wasn't until I started the book, that I realized that there were others in the series. I don't know if I would have enjoyed the book more if I would have started with the beginning of the series. Not sure if I will read any more about the Cedar Cove crew, but will keep them in mind. This book was on a reading list I had created of bestsellers and Oprah book club selections and recommendations from other readers.
Kristy H (1252 KP) rated Bootlegger's Daughter (Deborah Knott Mysteries, #1) in Books
Feb 13, 2018
Not a classic, but certainly an enjoyable mystery novel. First in a rather large series (up to 12 books now, I think) featuring Deborah Knott. Deborah, the so-called bootlegger's daughter, is an attorney in a small North Carolina town. As often happens in such series, crime seems to follow her wherever she goes. In this book, she looks to solve a cold case murder that occurred when she was very young... and her investigation leads to several more deaths.
Margaret Maron's books are quite engaging and fun-to-read... I blew through this book in a few days.

Gisell Middleton (189 KP) rated Liars’ Paradox in Books
Nov 13, 2018
As a fan of Taylor Stevens’ Munroe series, I was at once skeptical and hopeful. Could this start to a new series be as inventive, creative, intriguing and amazing as the one I loved but would not see more of? The answer is a big yes! I was so excited when I began this novel and it gripped me in the first few paragraphs. I was thrilled when it introduced complex and bold characters. I was hooked when it provided an interesting and layered plot. I miss Vanessa “Michael” Munroe, but I am very glad for Jack and Jill.
David McK (3632 KP) rated Thuvia, Maid of Mars (Barsoom, #4) in Books
Jan 30, 2019
The fourth of Edgar Rice Burrough's <i>Barsoom</i> series that began with <i>A Princess of Mars</i>, this is actually the first book in the series that does not centre on the main protaganist of the first three novels (John Carter), as well as being the first story to be told in the third rather than first person.
As a consequence, I actually found this particular one to be a bit of a let-down from the previous, even if it does follow the same plot arc of those earlier stories (right down to yet another mysterious undiscovered race!).

Leanne Crabtree (480 KP) rated Entice (The Violet Eden Chapters, #2) in Books
Jan 6, 2021
I really enjoyed this.
This series is very complex in some respects but oh, so good when it's on a roll.
I'm still half in love with both Lincoln and Phoenix <spoiler>though now Phoenix has gone all serious bad guy and wanting to revive Lilith</spoiler> - I shouldn't like Phoenix as much, though he doesn't always seem like he's enjoying the stuff he's doing.
The soul mates thing sounds amazing, though it also sounds heart-breaking/soul destroying :/ I hope they make the right choice for each other
Can't wait to read the next book in the series (just not quite yet :))

Tom Turner (388 KP) rated Holy Sister (Book of the Ancestor, #3) in Books
Apr 30, 2021
Well, that's definitely going to stay with me for quite some time. There are definer some aspects of the ending of the Book of the Ancestors trilogy that my brain is still trying to compute, but the weird thing is, I don't see that as a negative as I might have done with another book or series. I think this is because everything in this series was so character driven I can't imagine it happening any other way. Mark Lawrence deftly skims not falling into clichés, which is so easy when it comes to ending a Saga. Absolutely brilliant! Bravo!
AJaneClark (3975 KP) rated The Sinner (Rizzoli & Isles, #3) in Books

Rizzoli & Isles are Back
A murder investigation based on the the death of a nun, and one in a critical condition, inside the walls of their convent. The nuns were brutally and savagely attacked, and Rizzoli & Isles were called to the scene to figure things out.
In this well written novel you can expect some twists and turns, some surprising moments and an in depth view behind the facades of these two strong females.
The third in the series did not disappoint.
