David McK (3587 KP) rated Moriarty: The Silent Order in Books
Nov 17, 2024
The second in Charles Kindinger's 'Moriarty' series of Sherlock Holmes re-imaginings, positing what if Sherlock was an imposter and Moriarty an innocent man driven to a life of crime by the former, which - I have to say - I did not find *quite* as enjoyable as the first.
It also took me a wee while to get used to the recasting of the role of Colonel Sebastian Moran - not to say that the actor was bad, by any means, just that he sounded different.
Anyway, this time round, the story starts in the United States, following both Moriarty and Sherlocks death at the Reichenbach Falls, before - in the latter half - moving back to Merrie Olde Englande - with a new nemesis in the form of Helen Mirren's blackmailer Lady Milverton.

I really enjoyed this book. It the second in series. I really do not really go for these kinds of books. This one had me a after a few chapters. It was got some twist and turns. Alex is back and better. Alex helps his brother Michael out. Micheal deals with all kinds of thing that are going on. He does thing that his brother would have done if were alive.
Is Alex alive and hiding somewhere or is he dead? Though Michael and Donna get some shocking news about Alex. Sindy enter Michael life. Thing are just get more interesting with all the things going on. Does Michael save his marriage? Alex is getting more information can he help Michael?

Domonique (0 KP) rated Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in Books

I can't even remember how I got turned onto this story, I think it might have been my sister. She kept telling me how awesome it was, and I just had to see for myself. From the first moment, I was hooked. I got sucked into the wizarding world of Harry Potter so quick it was like a tornado hit. From the first page, I couldn't put it down, I had to know what happened. I think me I finished this one in two days, that's how hooked I was. As much as I've enjoyed Twilight and Catching Fire, neither of those series made me love to read as much as Harry Potter. Not to mention wishing I had magical powers.

Kaylin (39 KP) rated Black Mirror: Bandersnatch (2018) in Movies
Feb 17, 2019
Pretty solid performances throughout (1 more)
Tons of branching paths to take
Wrong Path Mate
It's pretty impossible to talk about Bandersnatch without spoiling the entire thing, which I don't want to do because I feel as though everyone should give it a watch. That being said, if you don't like Black Mirror, you're not going to like this. It's got the same bleak tone that the rest of the series has. Don't go into this expecting a happy ending. It's branching pathways make for a unique viewing experience that took me back to my childhood playing VHS adventure games. I'd say give it a watch, but set aside enough time to explore the branching pathways.

Ande Thomas (69 KP) rated Abaddon's Gate (The Expanse, #3) in Books
May 30, 2019
I've said it before, I'll say it again. The Expanse is hands down the best SF series this side of Frank Herbert. The story is so tight, the characters so real, and the plot threads so engaging, it blows my mind that the show adaptation was hanging by a thread. Not that the show should have any bearing on the books. The Expanse is exactly what I've been wanting out of a science fiction universe for years. It hits all the buttons for me and hits them hard.
In this installment, every conflict seems dire. The villains are sinister and competent, the protomolecule is apathetically devastating, and humanity is unsurprisingly shortsighted and self-centered. What could go wrong?
All hail JSAC.

Abby is not only doing the flowers for her cousin's wedding, but she's in the wedding as a bridesmaid. But when someone crashes the wedding and then turns up dead, Abby has to set aside the flowers to help clear a friend of the crime.
It's been a couple years since I read this series, and I don't know why I let this book sit for so long. It was fun, and I really like the characters. The plot could use a few more twists and the characters could use a bit more development, but overall it was well worth reading.
