Cyn Armistead (14 KP) rated Attack the Geek (Ree Reyes, #2.5) in Books
Mar 1, 2018
Excuse me, but SQUEE! More Ree Reyes! More Drake! More Eastwood and Grognard! Yes, more Geekomancy!
Michael Underwood is back with a delightful novella and if I have ANY complaints, it's that this is a novella instead of a novel. That's just because I am a greedy fangirl reader. The story itself is fully developed, and the novella is exactly the right format for it.
Attack the Geek definitely isn't the place to start in the series, as it relies on previous knowledge of the characters and the universe, but if you've read the previous novels, you will NOT want to miss this installment when it is released on April 9.
Now I'm left hungry for Ree Reyes #3, though!

Definitely thought it was going to be more action packed after the first bit of the book was totaly good and I was like, I'm going to love this - then about 40% on I'd say was just boring AF - the end was action packed too which I get, most books do that, but at least give me something in between - the minor issues in there did nothing for the excitement level and I found myself wanting to DNF this book at 70% but I pushed through because that would have been sad. Definitely not continuing with the series but it was alright. I adore her family dynamic and her sense of right and wrong as well. and Cal is a treat.

What a great conclusion to the story - the formatting is still my favourite I need more multiformat books like this. Once I hit about 150 pgs I couldn't stop and devoured the rest of the book that day. I must say that Asha is not my favourite of the group - so her story didn't really appeal to me much, but there was enough of the other players to make up for it - it was very encompassing of the characters/stories and at 120 pages from the end I was having a panic attack and freaking out - needless to say this is one of the best series that I have read - and I can't wait to revisit it in the future!

I keep reading, it keeps tearing my heart out!!
I LOVE THIS SERIES!! But seriously, it seems to end on an event that tears my heart out every time! Prince Robot, his son and Petrichor are all trying to sell their stories and using magic, change themselves into another species (like you do - the ultimate witness protection programme), but of course nothing runs smoothly.
The Will lives up to his name (eventually!!), and the family seem happy at last. But that's OK, because the ending sorts that little detail out.
And Ghus is his lovely little self. If anything happens to him, I swear I will NOT be happy!
And there is going to be a year long hiatus!!! How can they do this to me??!!

Presented as a series of transcripted interviews and extracts from memoirs or diaries rather than as a straight narrated story, and set in France during the time of the 30 years war (so, roughly the same timeas 'The Three Musketeers'), I can see why this novel has been described as a mix of Alexandre Dumas and Bernard Cornwell.
An enjoyable enough read, but not really a pick-up-and-read type of book: this one, I found, could be quite heavy going at times, mainly as it does require some serious commitment instead of my usual 10 minutes here, 1/2 an hour there (which meant, that by the time I was beginning to get back into it, it was time to put it down again!) ...

David McK (3587 KP) rated Guard Against Dishonour (Hawk & Fisher, #5) in Books
Jan 30, 2019
Pretty much the very definition of pulp fiction, this is the kind of story that you tend to forget as soon as you've read it! While also never confirmed within this (or, to the best of my knowledge, in any of the Hawk and Fisher books prior to 'Beyond the Blue Moon'), there are also some very broad hints dropped that these two characters are the same protaganists as in Simon Green's 'Blue Moon Rising' novel.
Essentially, these novels are crime novels with a magical twist - personally, I find done so much better by Terry Pratchett's Discworld series of books featuring the City Watch. That's not to say these should be avoided: just don't go in with too high an expectation and you won't be disappointed!

I can't get over how much this book drew me in. I love movies where I can guess whats happening, makes me feel smart. Well I tried to do that reading this book and it kept fooling me! I had theory's the whole time but they were all wrong. Minus a couple about what was wrong with them. Its not as horroresque as I expected it to be which as much as I would have enjoyed, it doesn't need it because it works amazing as a seemingly real series of events! I have all 3 books so I'm onto book 2 immediately so I can find out who wants to help Elliot escape. And if that gross cult gets taken down!

Leanne Crabtree (480 KP) rated The Unidentified Redhead (Redhead, #1) in Books
Jan 6, 2021
This is my second book by the author, the first being Wallbanger which I loved.
I liked this one to start with. Younger man older woman romances can always be interesting and how these two got together was just that. It was cute and flirty.
I just didn't always get the humour these two shared. Maybe it's because I'm a Brit...but so was Jack, so I'm a little stumped there.
The rest of the storyline didn't grab me either. It was almost like nothing happened in the story but their budding romance, which would be fine normally but I wasn't 100% behind it.
I haven't decided if I'll continue the series but at the moment I'm hovering more over the 'not' side of things.

Not as good as some of the others
This series is a must buy for me. I've loved all of them so far, some more than others, admittedly, but none less than four stars.
This one didn't hook me as much as the others but I still felt a lot of emotion when it came to Knox. The poor guy. I wanted to equally hug him and slap him through out the present parts of the story.
I really like how the stories are inter twining. Cousins, brothers, best friends, school friends...its a little complicated at times but I like it.
My favourite Forbidden man has got to be Ten, still, but they're all really great. I can't wait to read Asher's story next!
