While the climax isn't wow, it is a well-written and well structured novel. Surrounding the death of a professor, there are multiple narratives and plots working against each other, with the constant question raised throughout about who is telling the truth. Good, not perfect first novel.

"Picking a Marquez novel is a near impossible task. It’s too easy to just go with the obvious choice(s). But this is his most daring novel, and the labyrinthine twists and turns of each sentence demand undivided attention—so perfect for a desert island, then."

This novel has vivid characters and a carefully structured mechanic of two first-person accounts together with a connection between the two, that builds like a mystery novel. Read my review here https://tcl-bookreviews.com/2015/04/14/the-secret-of-a-100-year-old-woman/

On the surface, Eva Rice’s debut novel The Lost Art of Keeping Secrets seems almost like “chick lit”. On closer inspection it really is much more. You can read my full review here https://tcl-bookreviews.com/2015/01/31/an-artistic-novel-and-thats-no-secret/
