"It’s an easy pick. Music in the form of words. It’s every Western pseudo-lit lover asshole’s cliché of a ‘spiritual third world novel’ that I almost hate myself for loving it, but I do."

"You’ll cry and laugh and cry again. Sam Lansky is the most gorgeous writer, and this—his second book but first novel—is just magical. It’s a beautiful story about mental health, memory, and recovery."

"This one has grown on me, and I realize it’s one of the better novel-to-film works from the 1960s counterculture. Also notable for the brilliant performances from Johnny Depp and Benicio del Toro."

"Hamid performs intricate, impossible tricks with time and place in this novel, and he’s so artful that it all feels not just plausible but effortless. Plus, the not-conventionally-requited love story is completely swoony."

A great mix of conflict, friendship and love in very trying times. This book had me both laughing and sobbing. Mostly sobbing. A beautifully written novel set in one of humanity's darkest hours. (0 more)
Just read it.
