For the most part this book is quite interesting. The general story line is engaging however in between dialogue there is a lot of description about the settings which sometimes go on for several pages. Too much information, in my opinion. It makes the book boring and long to read. Sometimes it was like reading a text book, a non-fiction book about pre-historic times. I ended up skim reading quite a lot of the novel.

The inspiration for the Ron-Perlman led movie(s) of the same name, Hellboy - like the lead character - is sort of a strange mix: in this case, of the occult with the medium of the graphic novel with a very Cthulu-like monster at the end of the tale.

I also have to say that this is proof that Marvel and DC aren't the only two publishers in the world able to produce compelling and enjoyable reads!

The third of Elizabeth Peter's <i>Amelia Peabody</i> (who is a Victorian archaeologist) series of books, this is the first one on which her incredibly precocious son Ramses is old enough to join Amelia and her husband on an expedition to Egypt.

Of course, this then turns into a mystery novel when it transpires that artifacts are being stolen from the digs(no surprise there), and when one of their acquaintances is murdered in Cairo ...
