"I first read this in college, expecting a dusty 500-year-old classic. The joke was on me, literally. This book, one of the first true novels, remains fresh and hilarious to this day, an earthy and poignant delight."

One of the more interesting novels I've ever read, and still one of my favorites, about two people interconnecting through fate and chance. You can read my full review here. https://tcl-bookreviews.com/2014/09/26/when-souls-collide/

While I think the novellas could be expanded into full novels, they're still great fun and I hope to see more in this world.

A classic that I never really liked or could get into. I generally like historical novels, especially if they have a bit of romance in them. Yet, this book was so tedious and boring that I could not get into it.

I thought that this was a very good story. It took a while for me to get into it but as soon as I did I was hooked. I'm not normally into romance novels but I thought this was very good.

Kehinde Wiley recommended Giovanni's Room in Books (curated)

"Giovanni’s Room is one of my all-time favorites by James Baldwin, a master of deconstructing the American character and social temperature during an era in which novels that explored race and queer love were few and far between, at best."

"An aging drag queen falls in love with a young revolutionary in Pinochet’s Chile. It’s a crime that Lemebel is so little known in the English-speaking world. This is one of the great novels of the past half century."
