Hazel (2934 KP) rated Time of Death (Tom Thorne,#13) in Books
Jan 12, 2018
I am a massive fan of Mark Billingham and I absolutely love his character - Tom Thorne - neither have ever disappointed me and, after reading this, they still havent. This book is ace as are all previous 12 novels. I am usually one of the first to the bookshop when a new one comes out but this time I was lucky enough to have been sent an eBook copy via NetGalley and I want to thank the publisher, Grove Atlantic, for this in return for an unbiased review.

King at his finest
Epic, multi character novels are what Stephen King does best and It is a fantastic example. The characters are all well written, well developed, flawed but all loveable in their own ways. The plot itself is a mix between a coming of age and a horror story, and keeps you reading throughout this 900 page + novel. The finale does get a bit too bonkers in parts and there are a few aspects of the story that are a little unnecessary, but it's a sign of a great book when you get to the end and feel so sad that it's over.

CloudsGirl27 (2 KP) rated Play Me Wild (Play Me, #1) in Books

I'm gonna start right off the bat and say I felt that this could of been one whole book instead of a series. They were all just short parts of one whole novel. But anyone, I enjoyed this book series very much. It was the right amount of erotica scenes with a real love story story line, that held up nicely. I liked the main characters Sebastian and Aria, and I liked their tragic backgrounds as well. I blew through this series in two days and I would recommend it to anyone who likes not too steamy but isn't shy about sex erotica novels.

When I grow up, I want to be Hit Girl!
I really like this film, and I’ve watched it more than once! It’s very cartoonish in its delivery, and that’s just fine by me! Although that is kind of counteracted by the extreme violence and the language (I have to admit that I laughed A LOT when Hit Girl uses the ‘C’ word - I think that’s a British thing, possibly ??♀️) .
I’ve no doubt this will get watched again in my house - I have two teenaged boys who have been brought up in a house of graphic novels and superhero/ Marvel/ DC movies, so it’s a strong likelihood!

David McK (3562 KP) rated The Happy Return in Books
Apr 25, 2019
Chronologically the 6th in CS Forester Hornblower series, this was actually the first published (in 1937!), and so is a pretty good 'jumping-on' point for those unfamiliar with the character or novels.
Sometimes also known as 'Beat to quarters', this sees Hornblower commanding the frigate Lydia on it's mission into Spanish held waters: a mission that will involve forming an alliance with an insane Spanish landowner, encounters with the 50-gun Spanish ship-of-the-line Natividad, storms at sea, and (the married) Hornblower's first encounter with (the fictional) Lady Barbara Wellesley, the sister of the future Duke of Wellington.
A quick reading and thoroughly enjoyable read it is!

Kyera (8 KP) rated A Torch Against the Night (An Ember in the Ashes #2) in Books
Jan 31, 2018
Being a sequel, I can't say much without spoilers but a Torch Against the Night is just as good as its predecessor. We learn more about the djinn and even another world. I continue to be riveted and wish the third book was written already. I've grown to love Laia, Elias and Helene over the course of the two novels and feel for them during their trials/struggles. I was very surprised by some of the things that happened in the book, which was pleasing because that meant it wasn't formulaic and obvious. Highly recommended, but read the first novel in the sreies before you begin this one.
