Sophia (Bookwyrming Thoughts) (530 KP) rated The Immortal Throne (Into the Dark, #3) in Books

Yet here we are, finally, FINALLY, getting to see the fates of Daphne, Haden and all the others, even after the doors to EgmontUSA closed years ago.

Let's chat about The Immortal Throne, shall we?

Let me make it clear early on: I wasn't a fan of the first, and the second was better but not OMG I LOVE THIS SERIES.
But I did want to find out what happened because there was a cliffhanger and even if it's been years, I need that satisfaction. #inthecornercurious

We've got a refresher.

Most people would reread the entire series (or at least skim it), but Despain gave the run down in book two and I was expecting her to do so with book three.
She does exactly that early on, and this makes forgetful me very happy. (Plus there are SO. MANY. BOOKS?! How do I keep track of the deets?)

We're jumping right in after the events in The Eternity Key.

So not only do we get a refresher, but we also get things going on right at the moment, right after everything that happened in the second book. I highly recommend at least skimming the first two novels to get a sense if its been awhile (dont be like me, learn from my mistakes).

The ending is very satisfying.

Honestly Im just happy Daphne and Haden got an end to their story (BECAUSE WHAT IF IT DIDNT HAPPEN AND NO ONE PICKED UP THE LAST BOOK) and theres room for more if Despain so chooses to extend it (I think its fine though).

The Immortal Throne is probably my favorite of the three - there are more risks at stake as we try to find out if the story will end horribly or if itll be a happily ever after.

(Secretly I wanted tragedy but Im evil.)

Ali A (82 KP) rated The Vanishing Deep in Books

The reunion isn’t what Tempest thought it would be and instead, Elysea insists she’s innocent and convinces her sister to break her out of the facility so they together can find the answers about their parents. But it won’t be an easy journey, especially since they have the Warren, the person in charge of Elysea’s revival, on their trail to return her back before the 24 hours are up.
The Vanishing Deep’s cover is what drew me in to begin with as well as the world the author created. Astrid Scholte does an amazing job at creating this world of water and the floating islands that people live in. A part of me wishes we were able to see more of the day to day life instead of small glimpses here and there simply because the world sounds so interesting.
Scholte has a unique ability to create multi-dimensional, realistic characters that you can’t help but care for. My heart ached for Tempest and Lor throughout the whole book and I kept reading to find out if they get their happy endings or not. Having the chapters be in both Lor’s and Tempest’s points of view gives the reader a more in depth knowledge as to what’s happening, especially since during some parts, a character might be viewing things slightly differently due to grief or past experiences.
I thoroughly enjoyed the twists, turns, and thrills this book had. There were so many surprises that it made it hard for me to put down once I got to reading it. This novel is full of plot twists, both big and small that will have you turning pages upon pages until there is no more left. I would recommend this book to any fantasy lover out there. I am absolutely going to check out more of Astrid Scholte’s other novels.

Ivana A. | Diary of Difference (1171 KP) rated A Wedding in December in Books

Sarah Morgan has an extremely good talent in human relations and relationships. She puts these relationships on paper so easily… Do you know that feeling where you can sense people’s mood by just walking into a room? She managed to capture this moment in most of her scenes - and it was a true joy to read that.
The Synopsis
Maggie has two daughters: Katie and Rosie. While Katie has always planned everything in her life and never failed (becoming doctor is her biggest achievement), Rosie is the complete opposite. She changes her mind all the time and never knows what she truly wants.
And one evening, Rosie calls her mum to tell her she is getting married. All of a sudden. Not in her hometown in the UK, but in some snowy mountains in the USA. For Christmas. THIS Christmas. In just a few months.
Everything is happening so fast, and Maggie is afraid for her daughter. But most importantly, Maggie is afraid that she will finally reveal to her girls that she is getting divorced from their dad.
My Thoughts
In a lovely snowy atmosphere, we get to see this family, and their different personalities coming together, in a book where love wins in the end. Reading this book under a warm blanket and with a hot chocolate definitely gave me the true feelings of Christmas again.
I encountered some interesting scenes, a couple of plot twists, a bit of a mystery behind one of the sisters. The importance of mental health as well, and how important is to share our troubles with someone. Anyone.
Some of the relationships, new or current, happened at a very fast pace, which wasn't too my great pleasure. There was some sense of unnecessary urgency which didn't feel believable nor relatable to me. But in hindsight, a wonderful book to spend your evenings with.
If you love romance novels and you also love Christmas, A Wedding in December will probably end up being your favourite book. I highly recommend it!
