David McK (3562 KP) rated Conan the Barbarian in Books
Jan 30, 2019
A collection of classic Conan tales, repackaged with a new jacket to tie-in to the new movie coming out. This edition includes:
The Tower of the Elephant (pg 1)
Rogues in the House (pg 27)
The Frost-Giant's Daughter (pg 54)
Queen of the Black Coast (pg 63)
A Witch Shall Be Born (pg 95)
The People of the Black Circle (pg 141)
Red Nails (pg 226)
Beyond the Black River (pg 212)
The Hyborian Age (pg 372)
Cimmeria (verse) (pg 397)
and, to be honest, I'd be more inclined to give the book 1.5 stars (except GR doesn't do 1/2 stars) than 2: I preferred some of my other 2-star rated books, but this wasn't as bad as some of my 1-star rated books either.

Eleanor Luhar (47 KP) rated Adventures of Superman Vol. 1 in Books
Jun 24, 2019
This is a collection of standalone comics featuring the Man of Steel. Lex Luthor stars in several, as well as Bizarro, Lois Lane and many other infamous characters.
One comic includes Metropolis in a bottle, while another requires Superman's help with a child that has been moved across the timeline. In one, Lex even reveals plans to run for US president.
There's a great undercurrent of humour in many of these, and several comics give an insight to the day-to-day lives of different characters. The final episode in this volume is possibly my favourite - featuring fans of Superman who require his assistance. I thought this story was so clever, and pretty emotional, too.
This is very nearly in my favourite books list. Each story is so interesting and unique. 4.5 stars.

Movie Critics (823 KP) rated Burn After Reading (2008) in Movies
Oct 5, 2017
There’s nothing that tickles those pesky brothers more than casting a gaggle of gigantic Hollywood stars - including one’s wife - as total nitwits. It’s a high old tale about unintelligent intelligence. That’s the Coens for you.

Dean (6927 KP) rated Passengers (2016) in Movies

Jennifer Lawrence (1 more)
Good Sfx
Enjoy the ride
A good film with 2 of the most popular stars of Hollywood at present. Despite the limited cast this is an interesting film. A little predictable but intense nevertheless. Good Sfx for the spaceship and ideas for future technology but it won't leave a lasting impression.

graveyardgremlin (7194 KP) rated Crocodile on the Sandbank (Amelia Peabody #1) in Books
Feb 15, 2019
Amelia is a great narrator for this tale. She's intrinsically sensible, has a humourous way about her, and is just a pure joy of a protagonist! The Crocodile on the Sandbank was wonderfully witty, fast, and fun read and I can't wait to get to the rest of the series. :D

The Chocolate Lady (94 KP) rated The Princess Bride in Books
Oct 5, 2020
To honor the memory William Goldman, who passed away yesterday, I just updated my #bookreview of his most wonderful novel “The Princess Bride,” which is one of my all-time favorite books, and one which deserves far more than just 5/5 stars! https://tcl-bookreviews.com/2013/05/16/prepare-to-die-laughing/

Momoverseas (2 KP) rated Córka ?upie?cy in Books
Sep 24, 2019
Probably the strangest book I've ever encountered.. good, even very good.. mind blowing imagination of the author... BUT! Why would you put in all these english dialogs (especially in the akward moments of Zuza's love life) it did not fit, felt weak and annoyed me so much! Only reason for 4 stars.
