A great start to the series
THE CRUEL PRINCE was a great start to this series and it holds so much promise in terms of future book potential. The strengths of this series lie in the meeting of mortal and faerie worlds and the mixing of mortal and faerie beings, with hierarchy and prejudice being prominent. The book is full of strong characters to like, love, dislike and hate. Each character was developed so well, even some of the lesser characters. However, there are many lead characters and this exemplifies Holly Black’s talent.
Jude, the female main character was a strong young women who had had a life of hardship, trauma, bullying and adversity. She went through a coming of age that was forced on her during this read and she was just fantastic to focus on. The family relationships were complex and fascinating; the potential romantic relationships were unexpected and intriguing.
I listened to this on audio and I have to admit to feeling a lack of focus mid-way, where it either lost pace or the audio wasn’t working for me. The narration was good however. I can see myself flipping to the book a re-read before book two and continuing in this format.
I am truly excited at the continuation of the series and the final 15% was thrilling. Most YA fantasy fans will roll around in the muddy hype on this one, feeling satisfied.

This was a book I received that was personally recommended by the foxedbox and they are amazing at what they do. They are one of the best at getting your information and recommending you some of the best books that are out there.
I loved this book more than I thought I would. It was about a young woman who finds herself suddenly as a guardian to a 5-year-old boy because her friend, his mother, dies from a weak heart/heart problems/defects and how she goes back to her friend's home to honor her friend's wishes.
Along the way, she meets and connects with her friend's family, finds peace with her own family/personal issues and finds some sweet romance too. It takes place in/around New Orleans and mentions some about Hurricane Katrina and rebuilding and what it takes to put roots down and to commit and rebuild after storms in life and such. There's an intriguing story and mystery woven throughout the story between the past and the present and I couldn't get enough of it - I felt as if I was transported there lost in the story sometimes and had a hard time putting it down until it was over.
Now that I'm done reading it, I want to read more - it was SO good!!!

Just watched the first three episodes of this lost classic doctor who that was first shown in the 1960s but was junked by the BBC in the 70s but all that remains of the story is episodes one and three untill now we can watch it in full animated release is it any good so far yes the plot which takes place in and around Gatwick airport in which aliens are kindapping young people thru chameleon tours and replacing them with dupaites. The plot is very invasion of the body snatchers but on a BBC budget. Acting wise Patrick troughton is in his element as the doctor with support from the rest of the cast. Looking forward to the animated release later in the year fury from the deep that once a true classic

I feel oddly compelled to give this 5 stars.
I think it's safe to say that she is well and truly broken and screwed, poor girl. She lost her brother, her parents, her lover, her best friends.
I liked Jesse from the beginning even if he was a pain in the arse. I know he was dealing with his grief but God, do you have to be so mean to her. And poor Alex, the girl never gets a break.
I just hope it picks up a bit in the next one (which I'm off to buy right now from Amazon!) and that she can get herself unbroken--if that's a word--and sort out a relationship with Jesse because even after all the crap they put each other through, I still want them to get together! (Hopeless romantic I am)

I think it’s fair to say that if you’re a fan of the Harry Potter movies, and even the last Fantastic Beasts movie, then you’re going to love this one too. And you’re going to completely disagree with me when I say that this one is just unbelievably dull.
I really did want to enjoy The Crimes of Grindelwald though. I’ve never really been into the Harry Potter movies, and found the last Fantastic Beasts movie a bit disappointing. With the promise of even more movies in this series, and following what I actually thought was a very exciting and interesting trailer, I was really hoping to finally enjoy the wizarding world, along with so many millions of others. While I’ve always enjoyed many aspects of the Potter movies, the imagination behind it all and the vast, intricate world building, I’ve just never really enjoyed them as much as everyone else. This one though, I found to be the worst one yet.
Once again, we’re following the awkward Newt Scamander. On orders from a young Albus Dumbledore to track down a lost young man called Credence before evil wizard Grindelwald gets his hands on him. Lots of other characters are introduced, and subsequently lost in among all the plot changes, so we never really find out much about them or what motivates them. And Johnny Depp is incredibly bland as Grindelwald.
Harry Potter fans will rejoice in the fact that we get to revisit Hogwarts along with a young Dumbledore. And there are a couple of other cameos and nods to those movies to keep them excited. But overall this is just yet another case of all style and no substance. Slow paced, very little action and a script that is an absolute mess.

The second book in the Walker Papers series was more enjoyable than the first one for me, simple because I like Joanne's sense of humor. She pokes fun at herself relentlessly, whether it be in her thoughts or outloud in conversation, which makes her superhuman abilities not so off-putting. At one part she makes the remark that the people who are given the strongest powers usually don't even want them - the universe's way of creating balance. This is a great summary of Joanne's reluctance to be who she is supposed to be. The irony of this book is that reluctance is what she needs most in this book in order to defeat the Big Bad of this book, but she spends most of the book working on acceptance. She has a certain klutz factor in everything she does, and yet she still ends up on top no matter what the situation is.
The lack of romantic interludes I find rather discouraging, since she seems to have a few potential men in her sights but refuses to act on her attractions. With the chemistry building between her and her boss, a lack of activity feels like a loose end left hanging.
Another factor that felt like a loose end was Joanne's search for a spirit animal. While she did the search in the plot, and did come out with one, the ending made it look like she lost her spirit animal, so does she still have one or not? It seems like an awful lot of work to come up empty-handed.
Loose end number three was the outcome of the coven that Joanne joined. Nothing was stated to indicate if she was still a member, or what they intend to do about the events that they played a part in.
I was also rather confused about what the meaning of several of the scenes was, such as her encounter with the big Coyote and her sight-reversal of color. Neither of these, as well as other things, were explained much at all. I feel like I should research what shamanism is before I read anymore of this series, as it does not look like the author is inclined to delve into the details.
