Ross (3284 KP) rated Quadrophenia by The Who in Music
May 28, 2020
Rolling Stone's 267th greatest album of all time
I haven't seen Quadrophenia so this was a new experience for me. The soundtrack album had a bit of a Bat out of Hell feel to it, very "rock opera" in style. Great songs telling a story, which means at times the song gets a little abandoned for the sake of the story. But with Townsend writing it all, this was less of an issue here. Great songs well performed. A nice change to have Townsend on vocals at times.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2165 KP) rated Murder for Choir (Glee Club, #1) in Books

Paige Marshall has taken a job coaching a show choir until her big break singing opera comes through. But when a rival coach is murdered, she starts trying to clear one of her students of the crime. The book is fun with great characters, fast moving plot, and gentle humor woven in. Paige took a couple more risks than I felt like she should have, but I enjoyed it and definitely plan to read the sequel.

Johnny Depp (2 more)
Cheese Factor
Fun
Escapism
Dark Shadows is a glorious tribute to the gothic soap opera of the same name. It is deliciously camp, cheesy and extravagant - in short it is the perfect movie to watch from under the duvet whilst steadfastly avoiding the January chill outside.
Johnny Depp (disclaimer I’m biased I think the man is a marvel) is everything you need in this role, fun Fact - did you know that as a child he used to dress up as this character for Halloween.
It is the most technically superb film of all times but it’s fun and sassy.

A delightful mix of unique characters.
Set against an African back drop, with descriptions of pure beauty and wonder, The Scrotum Toad pulls you into a story that can outshine any soap opera. Full of quirky, fun characters each with their own special personality traits and levels of intelligence and luck (how on earth Stanley has made it as far in life as he has is beyond me)
Each character does have endearing qualities, I'll be honest though, it took me a little while to warm up to Tangle but that's definitely down to having to rearrange my way of thinking. She's quite the inspiration.

Remember, remember, the fifth of November ...
2005 adaptation of the 1980's Alan Moore classic, set in a near-future dystopian Britain where the populous is afraid of the (fascist) government, and where a vigilant known only as V uses terrorist tactics to rebel against said government and slowly falls for a young reporter named Evie
The story, then, has more than a hint of The Phantom of the Opera about it - both involve masked figures who live in the shadowy underworld, both involve melodrama and a star-crossed love story - with Hugo Weaving never once showing his face through the entire runtime, but still - impressively - able to convey his emotions through his acting.
