David McK (3666 KP) rated Inside Out 2 (2024) in Movies
Oct 13, 2024 (Updated Oct 13, 2024)
2024 sequel to the 2015 original, in which Riley has now grown up and is off to Hockey Camp just as she also hits puberty - cue new emotions Anxiety, Ennui, Embarrassment and Envy all appearing in her 'Numskul' style control room, alongside the existing Joy, Sadness, Disgust and Fear.
Anxiety takes over.
Like the original, this does a good job of showing how we need *all* emotions, not just one or two, in order to operate ...

I've been waiting forever
I've been waiting for this for years. I remember how much fun I had playing this game as a kid. But as we know with kids we lose stuff, we break stuff, and then it gets thrown away. Too bad cause I've been looking for a copy of the original online for sometime and didn't like the idea of spending upwards of $500. So now we have a new version which looks like the original with a few expansions. I'm super excited and will be buying a full set. More reviews to come when I actually get my hands on it

Gore
As I've been a fan of the original since I first watched it on the TV at the 12 late night wasn't sure at first if I was gonna like the new version was i disappointed no I liked it a lot I'm glad they ignored all the sequels and the rob zombie versions and give a us a proper sequel that stays true the original from start to finish plenty of gore which I like Jamie Lee Curtis back no longer the hunted but now ready to take down Michael with or without her family plus John carpenter back on the theme it took me back to what I liked about the original thumbs up.
Jess Collins (3 KP) rated Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy in Video Games

I honestly loved this game. Even during the times of frustration, I loved it. The original story lines have been followed and re told so well. This game was incredibly nostalgic and brought back many memories of my child hood. In fact, I was enjoying the nostalgia so much, I even went out and bought an original PlayStation 2, just to relive the memories again.
I was a little disappointed to see they had changed the was crash does his celebratory dance... but I guess we can’t have everything exactly the way it was, and no doubt it was changed just so they don’t receive complaints.

Most of the characters don’t follow the original ones physically nor personality (1 more)
The story doesn’t follow (not even close) the original.
Death Note Netflix Live Action
Death Note is originally an anime created by Tsugumi Ohba from 2003 to 2006.
If I haven’t watched the anime (which I did, years ago Netflix published the live action) I would have given this film a 6.
I love Netflix and I’m a big fan of a lot of Netflix originals but this one could be way better.
Since I watched the anime, it was painfully horrendous to watch the film.
Netflix basically followed the introduction of the anime and made a whole new thing out of it giving it the same name.

Lewis John Hatchett (23 KP) rated Men in Black International (2019) in Movies

As good as expected
After growing up on the original trilogy, I was looking forward to returning to the franchise. Coming out of the film I found it a fun filled adventure back into the world of the Men in Black.
However after rewatching the original trilogy I found that the film didn't have the same weirdness that the originals had. I remember watching the first and being terrified (even for being a PG film) where as this new iteration focused more or the comedy between Hemsworth and Thompson than the aliens that made the originals so interesting.
Overall it was a fun filled film that would be worth a watch.

Good to see the Matrix again (1 more)
Some cool action scenes
Self aware, too much so (1 more)
Similar to the other 3 in a lot of ways
Chasing Rabbits
Well a film I was definitely looking forward to. The original Matrix was ground breaking and blew audiences away with so much.
This 4th installment just doesn't have that impact. A lot of similar themes to the original Trilogy resurface again. At times almost feeling like a reboot rather than anything new. The action scenes are very good especially towards the end, but the overall story of events from the last film to this one don't offer up much new content or ideas. Enjoyable for fans but still not a patch on the original.

David McK (3666 KP) rated The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997) in Movies

"Something has survived"
1997 sequel to the original Jurassic Park, loosely based on a book that itself was written (again by Michael Crichton) after the first film, that moves the action from Isla Nublar to Isla Sorna, aka Site B, where it transpired the original dinosaurs were created before being shipped off tonthe park.
Said facilities shut down after the accident in the Park.
And is where Goldblum's returning Dr Ian Malcolm finds himself, on what he believes to be a rescue mission as his hastily-creared paleontologist girlfriend is already on said island.
While not as good as the original film, this is still enjoyable (and takes inspiration from both the second novel as well as from unused portions of the first novel).

Jesters_folly (230 KP) rated A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010) in Movies

Contains spoilers, click to show
The Teens of Elm Street are dying in their sleep and all the clues are pointing to a past that no one remembers.
This is the remake of the 1984 classic slasher film of the same title and, I have to admit I’ve been putting off watching it for a while and I have to admit I was quite surprised by it.
The story line is mostly the same as the original film, the teens of Elm Street start to have nightmares about a strange, burnt man in a tatty green and red jumper, a brown fedora and glove with knives on the fingers. As their dreams start to get worst the teens begin to die in real life. As they investigate what is happening Nancy, Quentin and Kris come across photos of them all in pre school but none of them remember having met that young.
The 2010 ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ is darker than the original and is not a direct remake. It still has a few familiar scenes, including the bath tub scene but the story focuses more on what happened between Freddy and the young children of Elm Street even questioning whether Freddy was innocent. Unlike the original film, Freddy is punishing the children for what they said about him, not their parents for killing him.
If you haven’t seen any of the original films then the remake is a good film and the only complaint I have is that Freddy isn’t Freddy. It seems that the Freddy in this version is meant to be more serious than the one in the original but they still have him crack the odd joke, often one from the original film and it doesn’t quite work, it seems like this Freddy is trying to do an impression of the original one. I’m not too sure if this would affect anyone who hasn’t seen the other films.
A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010) is a good, standard slasher whose story deviates slightly from the original in a way that actually adds to the world it’s set in.
