Christmas 2014/early 2015.

There was a gift pack available in Easons, with said sealed pack including 2 sci-fi film magazines, and one of six Star Trek novels. As the pack was sealed, there was obviously no way of knowing which novel is in which pack.

When I purchased said pack, this is the novel that was in mine - if I'm honest, it's probably not one that I would have picked up in a bookstore, nor was it the novel I was hoping would be included.

Set during The Original Series era (i.e the original TV series) of Star Trek, this obviously therefore includes all the central character of said TV show: Captain James T Kirk, Scotty, Spock, Dr 'Bones' McCoy, etc. That is, the 'original' of those characters, rather than those in the more-recent J.J. Abrams reboot.

The plot has to do with Captain Kirk and co receiving a distress call while en-route to a diplomatic mission, and boarding a spaceship unlike any they have ever seen before, where (once again) the usual rules of time and space do not apply.

While readable enough, I have to say, it's also pretty forgettable, with nothing to really convince me to pick up other books by this author, or (while I admit it may be somewhat unfair to base my perception of the whole on this alone) to go looking for other Star Trek books unless they come highly recommended.

11/10 Rating!
Components are just as amazing as the original game. Wooden meeples and adds a new resource that is just as amazing in quality for the pieces. As with the original the artwork is up to par and looks fanominal. Hand management doesn't change that much but there are new cards to burn through, learn, and play. Resource management is a game changer now that they added the pearls. These are worth extra points at the end of the game as well as needed to take the new basic events that replace the original basic events. These are valuable new resources that can be expensive to obtain. Frog embassadors change the game as the add a new element to worker placement. They are the only worker you own that can go to the new water locations and you only get one per season so you have to use them wisely. The new water locations are also face down until discovered adding new strategies and luck to each game. Still no resource holders which is more of a personal thing for me but they could always add them as an upgrade pack later or you can get some pretty nice theme ones off Etsy if you're willing to pay a higher price for them.

Very good remake

If you watch the movie with the intention to compare it to the original, chances are you won't like it. This is exactly what I did upon first putting the movie on, when it first showed the ibuddy doll I almost immediately turned it off, I mean come on that is NOT how a good guy doll should look. Instead I stopped trying to compare, took it for what it was and ended up enjoying it. The storyline is completely different to original child's play. instead of a murderers soul trapped in a doll trying to find another human to transfer into, it is essentially a smart doll which goes haywire trying to keep Andy for himself. However, for a doll I found it funny that Andy could have conversations with him like he really was human and he thought nothing of it. I don't know about you but if a toy started understanding and communicating with me I would freak out! Anyway, this aside I really enjoyed the movie, the humour was spot on (I laughed way too hard when chucky presented Andy with his mums boyfriends face as a present, including a bow 😂😂), the death scenes were good and gory and acting was great. OK so it wasn't Brad douriff but tear yourself away from the original and you've got a pretty decent slasher.
