This certainly wasn't the best thriller that I have read but on the other hand it wasn't the worst. Until about half way through I would describe this book as a page-turner but for me it unfortunately fell flat at the end. I understand that the focus of the book would cause a fair amount of repetition, however, there was so much it eventually lead to boredom. Although a good idea for a novel I felt it lacked certain thrills and didn't have a strong enough punch. I'm all for the idea, on the fence about it's execution and just plain disappointed about the outcome.

Hockey and Affairs of the Heart
Ice Hockey (check) Romance (check)

This book made me chuckle aloud. It had heart warming, sometimes eye rolling moments and love.

As Elise's brothers best friend, and team mate, Elise is very much off limits to Justin, but their mutual attraction and long harboured crushes might just be worth the risk. A drunken night leads to a secret relationship with the potential to change everything.

This light hearted, steamy read is an instant page turner. The characters are likeable, the dialogue is far from cheesy and the hot moments are HOT!

As a sports romance lover, I would recommend to anyone with similar reading tastes.

Mills & Boon meets fantasy and VAMPIRES!
As a fan of reading the short Mills & Boon books as a divider between larger more intense novels, I was pleasantly surprised with this one. This was Mills and Boon meets fantasy and vampires, a brilliant page turner, demolished in just over an hour.
Not reading the previous stories in the Valorian Chronicles, I was not familiar with the characters but this did not effect the enjoyment of book.
If you like fantasy and mass market paperback romance, you will certainly enjoy this. Be aware that the adult scenes are not your standard "cute" romance.

A page-turner of frightening speed. (0 more)
A Mystery Unlike Any Other
Gaspar de Alba brings a fine writer's sensitivity and the open heart of her heritage. The result is a novel that takes your breath away, page after page, and grabs your heart.

Desert Blood is a mystery unlike any other. Gripping, heart-wrenching, set against the tough, lacerating reality of border-town engaging mystery, but it is more than well-written entertainment. It is an important book that sheds light on the Juárez murders--the ongoing slaughter of young Mexican women in the border city of Juárez by persons unknown. Desert Blood weaves together its fictional tale and the known facts of these notorious crimes in a way that reveals the cultural and political attitudes that have allowed these murders to continue with the indifference--if not the outright complicity--of Mexican authorities.

Gaspar de Alba not only crafts a suspenseful plot but tackles prejudice in many of its ugly forms: against gays, against Hispanics, against the poor. It's an in-your-face, no-holds-barred story full of brutality, graphic violence, and ultimately, redemption. Offering a powerful depiction of social injustice and serial murder on the U.S.-Mexican border, this is an essential purchase for both mystery and Hispanic fiction collections.

this is the second time I've read the book and it is still as good the second time. really enjoyed this book. a different story with a twist in the story. the connection between the two main characters is fantastic as well as the supporting characters, making this book romantic and funny. this book has some very hot steamy bits to it but they are not over done. a fantastic page turner and easy book to read. the story is fast paced moving from romantic and funny to misfortune very quickly. have the second book waiting as you will need to start it straight away. highly recommended.
