It's taken me forever to read this (I started it in May!), mainly because I like my paranormal books to have a romance subplot in them and this lacked one.

However this still managed to grab my attention, which is why I've persevered instead of giving up.

Admittedly my interest only grew enough for me to not want to put it down once Adrian was introduced around the half-way mark. The fact that Raylene had someone to interact with other than herself and phone-calls with contacts every so often was a big plus for me. I needed to read her bonding with someone because she came across as a bit heartless at times.

Although I liked this, I don't think I'm going to read the second book in the series despite having it in paperback. Not really my sort of thing.

This series always end up being a quick read for me--or at least for a paperback, anyway--but that could be down to the large font size.

Anyway, to start with I thought this series would be a bit like the authors [b:Heist Society|6574102|Heist Society (Heist Society, #1)|Ally Carter|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1359254479s/6574102.jpg|6767235] series--same characters, different mission every book--but it's turning out to have one big story arc that you get bits and pieces of every time you read a book in the series while still containing enough fun bits and bobs to make each story complete.

I'm still waiting for books 4 and 5 to arrive but as soon as they do, I'll be continuing this series to see what happens with my fave foursome and Zach and Mr Solomon.

Recommended reading "The Strange Case of Caroline Maxwell "Paperback – 12 Sep 2014 by Amanda Harvey Purse.

This book has all the ingredients that makes a great mystery novel. The question is what is there not to love history mixed with fiction, Sherlock Holmes, Jack the Ripper with a great references to Agatha Christie and a famous little Belgian detective.

Amanda's book deserves so much more then the twos reviews it has on Amazon .

The book is truly well researched and comes across as a great labour of love , I loved spotting the historical cases that where mixed among the fiction. If you have the opportunity to read this book I recommend you do it's not to be missed.

Amanda I loved this book from start to finish thank you for the opportunity to read it I hope to see more of this wonderful character

David Schwartz recommended Videodrome (1983) in Movies (curated)

Videodrome (1983)
Videodrome (1983)
1983 | Horror, Sci-Fi

"David Cronenberg’s reflexive masterpiece of modern horror, with James Woods as a seedy purveyor of soft-core exploitation for cable TV, and Debbie Harry as his siren, brought the media-as-message theories of fellow Torontonian Marshall McLuhan to visceral life. This was one of the first movies I rented on VHS, and Videodrome is partly an exploration of the strange, clunky physical sensation attached to the idea of a feature film being available on a paperback-size plastic-and-tape cassette that is inserted into a machine . . . and our brains. A quarter century later, Cronenberg’s dazzling vision of a world where image and flesh are one—“long live the new flesh”—Videodrome’s futuristic vision is timelier than ever. And above all that, the movie is sexy, smart, funny, and fascinating, moving adeptly between its layers of reality, imagination, and that vast territory in between."

I'd been struggling to get to even half way in this. No offense to the story or anything but i'm in a paranormal mood right now so Kim Harrison's The Hollows series is winning in my kindle vs paperback war and i just can't get into this.

It might have been them getting together so early...I like the whole will they/won't they thing in my romances, so i was really enjoying this until after the China/Japan visit when they declared their love for each other about the 30% mark. It was too soon in my opinion, whether they'd fallen in love three years earlier or not.

Also the prosthetic had nothing on the one in [b:Worth It|32608774|Worth It|S.M. Shade|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1481739183s/32608774.jpg|53191396], which i read not long ago and fell in love with.

Sophie Foster has never quite felt like she fit in with her family. Turns out, that's because she isn't human. When she meets Fitz, her entire life changes as she leaves the Forbidden Cities of the human world to join the Lost Cities of the Elves. But her presence stirs up trouble in the Lost Cities as two different hidden factions start fighting over her. Can she navigate this new world and figure out who to trust?

This set contains the first three books in the series in paperback. They are filled with twists, turns, and surprises as well as wonderful characters and a fantasy world I would love to go visit. If you enjoy Middle Grade fantasy, you need to read these books, and when you do, you'll devour these three books as quickly as you can.

ARC received from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review, thank you.

I imagine this book would look really nice as a glossy, A4, paperback. Bright, colourful and attractive with cute little drawings and speech bubbles. Visually, this is definitely a winner. After reading this book I understand that it definitely isn't aimed at my age group, I'm too old and my daughter is too young *sad face* although I believe it's something I would of liked when I was younger.
I requested this because as a child I was fascinated with the human body and now...I just like gross stuff.
The poetry element was a nice surprise, although towards the end it was a bit of a mish-mash (are we learning about the human body or Shakespeare?).
If you're interested in the human body with an extra dose of ickyness then I recommend The Horrible Science collection. I love those collections!

Sci-fi is not one of my favourite genres, unless it has a good, solid romance in it. This one didn't.

But I have this thing where if I have the paperback and the movie version is coming out soon that I have to read it first. This is probably something I'd enjoy more as a film than simply reading about because the continual changing of viewpoints without being told whose viewpoint it was got annoying after a while. The first time was a real head spinner since you had no warning but further on when it starts going between three or four people and you have to read so far in to figure it out...nightmare!

One thing I will say for the author though, is that he can write some really good action/fight scenes.

This really wasn't my sort of read but if you like alien invasions, then this'll be right up your street.
