Good start
Paradise PD is about a small-town police department. They are a pretty useless bunch, from a policewoman with a fat fetish who sexually harasses an overweight policeman, to a police dog with a drug habit and a a rookie who is the son of the Police Chief.

An absolute classic...mostly!
This will always be one of my favourite albums, always fun and memorable, featuring Meat Loaf's best known songs.

The songwriting from Jim Steinman is outstanding, and the music always has a great amount energy, whether the song is fast or slow.

For me personally, the only track that lets the album down is "Paradise by the Dashboard Light", which starts off fine, but is ruined at the point Ellen Foley comes in. Foley herself is not to blame, but at this point the song becomes repetitive and silly, particularly the part with the baseball commentary running through "bases".

"It seems I’ve been watching Children of Paradise all my life. I remember taking my son to see it when he was seven. When I was trying to convince Brando to play Garrett in Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid, he told me that, along with the master swordsman in Seven Samurai, the thief in Children of Paradise was the greatest performance on film. I came to Port of Shadows much later in my life, and the Criterion transfer really enhanced its beauty. Jean Gabin became a prototype for me of a kind of actor difficult to find today. And the dialogue inspired me to attempt to re-create its poetic realism."

Meh...I guess I was expecting more romance and a grovelling Caleb after the way he left her in the last one and we didn't really get that. No it was all arguments and then apologies and then more arguments.

If I'm honest I was going to give it two stars up until the epilogue, and then one bit bumped it up half a star or so because Caleb from [b:Leaving Paradise|17558140|Leaving Paradise (Leaving Paradise, #1)|Simone Elkeles|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1363610968s/17558140.jpg|531712] appeared and made good on something he said in the first.

As for some of the other characters. They really grew on me, Lenny definitely had by the end after some of the stupid things he'd said and done in the first part of the book. Julio wasn't such a bad guy. Kendra...huh. <spoiler>Leah did the right thing. Lou and Maggie's mum getting together was nice.</spoiler>

I wasn't all together impressed with this but there were some quite sweet bits and some rather hot bits that made it worthwhile if you want to read how Maggie and Caleb's story ends.

...this 2003 TV movie may dial down the star wattage somewhat but it doesn’t turn the lights out completely: Lou Diamond Phillips! Kristy Swanson! Coolio! I mean, come on – what more could you want?
