From the Dark has some interesting ideas, nothing original but good still the same; it's just too bad the story couldn't come together. I got to the end of page 170 and just could not go on. I hate to be so harsh but I was not going to force this torture onto myself anymore.
The main problem with the book was how hurried it was; the book had too much going on and was light on a decent plot, yet it still ended up boring. For the most part the story consisted of parts that were redundant, cheesy, weird, and/or ludicrous, which in turn made me cringe. The characters were one-dimensional, boring, and unsympathetic; I can't say I hated them and I can't say I liked them, although Ravin got on my nerves. Not to mention, what was up with the counting thing? What is Michael, Sesame Street's the Count? I mean if that was used in a children's book or a comedic PNR than fine, but in a supposedly serious paranormal romance? It's not funny, it's bloody ridiculous.
I'm sorry to say this, but this whole disaster made me think the author just half-heartedly wrote the book by filling in blanks around a few ideas. I sincerely hope Michele Hauf's other books are much better than this.

Well Worth A Read!
This is the second book in a series entitled ‘The Sisters’ Secrets.’ The first one is called ‘The Sisters’ Secrets: Rose’, which I haven’t read, though, whilst not ideal, I don’t think it matters that much if they are read out of sequence. It was still a great book for me and worked fine as a stand-alone read.
The Sisters’ Secrets: Reen has all the required ingredients that make a really fantastic story in its genre: from the mood and undercurrents to the good writing and the experience of love and friendship, not forgetting the feelings of hope and moving on from the past.
There is plenty of romance in this thought-provoking story and lots of lighter moments, but this is not lightweight paranormal dross. It examines issues around family and relationships as well as bereavement and loss.
I recommend this very engaging, if a little short, read to those with a fondness for the Romance and Women’s Fiction genres. There are more secrets to be revealed in the next book of the series ‘The Sisters’ Secrets: Pearl’ and I will be reading that book, too!

It feels like a spoiler, but since Gilman says this at the front of the book, I suppose it isn't: <i>Blood From Stone</i> is the last Retrievers novel, at least for a time. She's moving on to focus on other characters in the Cosa Nostradamus universe. I wasn't happy to read that, but after reading the book, I'm okay with it.
<i>Blood From Stone</i> definitely isn't a book to start with if you're new to Gilman's work. The Retrievers series really does need to be read sequentially. If you have read the rest, you know that Gilman has developed a very interesting universe and some very well-developed characters in the series. Book 6 doesn't disappoint at all, and brings the major plot threads to a very satisfactory close. I can't be more specific without real spoilers, though!
I'm definitely looking forward to reading the next novel in the universe, which will focus on Bonnie and the PUPIs (Private, Unaffiliated, Paranormal Investigators). I adore <i>CSI</i>, <i>Bones</i>, <i>NCIS</i> and the like, so I'm curious as to how forensics will work in urban fantasy settings. Jes Battis' <i>A Flash of Hex</i> is supposed to be waiting for me at the library, so by the time I get to <i>Hard Magic</i> I'll have something else to compare it to.

4.5 stars for Anna Dressed in Blood.
If you ever wanted to know how to write a decent and great ghost story, this is it! I had high hopes for this book, and it didn't disappoint.
However, I was expecting it to be a bit more scary, but I didn't find it scary at all. I wouldn't consider it as a horror book. Paranormal ghost story, yes.
I loved, loved, loved the character of Anna. I loved her so much, in fact, that I was wishing that she actually did exist so we could be friends.
I also loved the fact that it had swearing in it that wasn't OTT like a lot of older teen books. The way Cas swears made him feel more like a real teenage boy. What 17 year old boy doesn't swear!?!
The plot was quite good although, when it came to the story line of how Anna died and why she was the way she was, it was quite predictable...This is what made me give the book 4.5 stars instead of 5...well, that and it wasn't scary which I was hoping for.
Overall, this is definitely a good read! I can't wait to read Girl of Nightmares to find out more about (hopefully) Anna, Cas, Carmel, and Thomas.
This is a book not to be missed!

I hate being the first person to give a book a low rating, but after months of trying, I was unable to finish Looking for Dei. Largely, it's simply not my style. The voice is a little too passive, the story a little too predictable. Then again, my tastes are a bit bloodier and darker than this fantasy novel, and this is yet another pure YA read--like Ghost Slayer, but fantasy rather than paranormal.
I don't feel an attachment to any of the characters, and for me that's a big problem. There's no connection, no wondering what will happen to them and that could be in part because of all the exposition. They simply bore me, for lack of a better word. I don't mean to come off harsh, but I've really been struggling to read this.
Plotwise, its much of the same. Too much of what is going on can be guessed at. The evil characters have no mystery to them. The good characters are always fortunate in what happens to them. It's simply too fantastic in that regard for me.
I'd like to thank the author for providing me with an ARC of his book for the purpose of review. I regret being unable to finish this book, but after three months of trying and putting it down, I simply cannot force-feed it to myself.

The second in the Immortal Love series, this portion continues after the first and is told from Claudia's perspective, in the form of a story to Eva about how Claudia and Marcus Letrell met and ended up together. Starting in the late 1800s, there's plenty of information to grab you, from the idea of house servants to help you dress to a wealthy suitor asking for your hand to improve your station in life. Plus, there's vampires and all the crazy things that happen with them. =)
As I've said before, Amy is one of my favorite authors, and this series is just plain awesome. We get to learn about the Letrell brothers from their companion's perspective, and that's something that really pulls me in. In this book, we read about Claudia's life before Marcus entered it, and how she came to find out about him and his family. Over the course of her story, she tells how she became a vampire and what happened to her in the decades that followed. It's a rather moving story, one that had my emotions on a roller coaster from start to finish.
I would definitely recommend this series to anyone who enjoys vampires, paranormal romance, strong female characters, or who just wants to read a good book. =)

When Darkness Follows (Beyond the Grave #4) by Athena Daniels
When Darkness Follows is the fourth book in the Beyond The Grave series, and we reunited with both TSI and Debunking Reality. Rachel has called Debunking Reality because of a murder-mystery that involves her. Unfortunately she can't remember what happened, and wants to find out what happened to her friend, whilst clearing her other friend's name. Once Daniel hears she is involved, nothing will keep him away.
As is typical with Athena Daniels' books, nothing is quite as it seems. There is enough tension and paranormal activities to keep you both turning the pages and also on the edge of your seat. We see more of Pia, with Nate showing up occasionally. However, the focus of this story really is on Daniel and Rachel. I thoroughly enjoyed it, even though I was left with some unanswered questions.
The writing is superb, and pacing exceptional, and the transition from one scene to the next is flawless. However, for myself, the ending felt a bit rushed. That being said, I would still highly recommend this book. The whole series is outstanding, and so is this story.

This is an app where authors can upload their stories, it seems aimed towards romance stories and often paranormal. As such they are mostly unknown authors or people who wrote for fun. I think it’s amazing that this app gives them a platform for showing their work.
I have found that some stories are better written than others, I did have to give up on one as I just couldn’t handle all the mistakes but I guess you can’t complain for free stories.
My main issue with this app is that the stories are written in sections. Each time you start a story you can read up to about the first 10 sections before incredibly long wait times for the next to unlock begin. It seems to be mostly 2 days at a time but I did have a wait if a whole week!! Sometimes you wait 2 days for the next section to unlock and it is very short, it took me less than five minutes to read. You can speed up with coins however it seems the only way to gain these is with actual money.
One positive is that it will clearly state of a story is complete, I find this really helpful as it avoids the disappointment of starting a story and it then never being finished.

This is the first novel by my all time favourite author. I remember the first time I read Touch the Dark, and each reread has been as thrilling as the last. The pages couldn't be easier to turn if they turned themselves, the Cassandra Palmer and same-world differnet heroine Dorina Basarab series keep me hooked cover to cover, book to book. I recommend Karen Chance to anyone and everyone, including all the fun, lighthearted but sexy novellas and short stories too.
What I love most about Touch the Dark is that Cassie is genuine. She has no clue about anything, understands she is just a human in a vampire and mage world, but is still plucky and doesn't let herself stay down no matter how hard she gets pushed.
This was the first ever adult paranormal romance I had read, and it opened me up to the genre. But I have never found another series that is as sexy and not-awkward with both romance (genuine relationship building) and the steamy scenes.
Balance between romance and action and world building is perfect. It is a first in a series, so be aware of that. Committing to Cassie's story is the best decision you will ever make.
Enjoy the book, fall in love with the series.
