This book is split into three different sections - Ryne, the Nix and Nari. Ryne is our young hero whose whole life has been affected by tales of the Nix, although he has yet to see any proof that she exists. The nix is the villain of the piece that I actually felt sympathy for. Yes, she was evil and twisted but there were reasons for that, which just about broke my heart! Nari is our spitfire heroine, not content to sit back and be rescued, she is the one doing the rescuing.
Well written and with a smooth plot and timeline, this is a new 'old' fairytale that I thoroughly enjoyed. Definitely recommended.
* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book; the comments here are my honest opinion. *

This is the story of the Sorensen family: Marilyn and David meet in the 1960’s, fall in love, get married, have four daughters and never fall out of love. Quite unusual for books these days, where marital strife seems to be the norm. Don’t worry though, the daughters more than make up for their parents! Marilyn and David seem to take everything in their stride, even when the teenaged grandson they never knew existed, appears in their lives. They’re master jugglers: they’ve juggled four daughters and all of their problems, and are more than happy to include this young man in their lives. Along with a surprise granddaughter when their third daughter becomes a single parent.
I’ve tried to pinpoint what it is about this book that I liked so much, and I think that its just so emotionally engaging. It’s pretty difficult to read this book and NOT become involved in this family’s lives. It’s enthralling, and a great read for those of us who enjoy being a fly on the wall!
It’s a great mix of humour and emotional turmoil. I loved it!

Although it was easy to guess what was going to happen, it did not stop me from frantically reading on and wanting to know what was going to happen next between Anthony and Miss Sheffield. And when things finally slotted into place as much as it was expected it did still make me smile.
This book touches on some slightly more serious issues - the death of a parent and the fears that come with that. But it does deal with them in such a good way, that although it is a focus on a lot of the book, it doesn’t impose on the love story and only adds to your love and admiration of the characters.
I have found Julia Quinn’s writing so easy to read and I can’t help but want more once I have finished a book, and I am glad that there are more to this series. Although the ending wasn’t a surprise, at some points I definitely didn’t see it coming and thought that I must be wrong. Beautifully written, and I’m still guessing at the identity of Lady Whistledown two books in!
