The thing that this scientist invents is the transfer of consciousness between bodies, and if they to switch bodies, the original body's consciousness just stays dormant. This used the trope of, switching bodies to perform... services of certain types. Not really all that original, and when you find out the true situation, it will disgust you even more.
Anyway, I recommend reading Recursion over this novel, or, at the very least, read Recursion first.

I believe this book is good for though science fiction but also I would suggest teens to read it from the age of 14 and up. The parent has the right to decide. It being rated PG 13 so it would be okay for 13 years old if you the parent this your child or children are mature enough for the book. That is up to you.
