While Paris Slept was really so much more than I expected. I didn’t expect to become so emotionally invested in all sides of this story, and I didn’t expect to cry quite as much as I did!
Jean Luc Beauchamp is put in an impossible situation as soon as the Nazis occupy France. He has a deformed hand, and if he shows any kind of weakness it could mean his death. But to stay working on the railways brands him as a collaborator. Someone who has facilitated the Holocaust.
So when a woman thrusts a tiny baby at him as she is put on a cattle truck, Jean Luc does the only thing he can do.
He and his girlfriend (and later, wife) begin a perilous journey , eventually settling in 1950’s California. In 1953, Jean Luc is questioned about his role in the war, and is told something that will change his life and that of his family forever.
We switch between the two timelines of wartime France and and the present day (1950’s) California and Paris.
It’s an unforgettable story of resilience, secrets and survival. All actions on both sides of the story were all for the love of a child. Oh, how I cried (this seems to be becoming more and more frequent lately!)!
Wonderful storytelling ❤️

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2434 KP) rated The Story of Diva and Flea in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Flea is a street cat in Paris who lives by his wits all alone. Diva is a dog in a small apartment building who is afraid of everything. When their paths cross one day, they build a friendship. How might that change their lives?
This early chapter book is longer than normal for author Mo Willems, but it still holds all of his charm and bits of humor. The story is utterly charming for all ages, and the lessons about the power of friendship are great.

True story
The true story of three life long friends who as kids were considered trouble makes and were told they would not make it as anything of themselves. Two of the friends Alek and Spencer join the Military and their friend Anthony goes to college and they decide to take a back pack trip through Europe. They find themselves on the 15:17 train to Paris where a Terrorist had planned a deadly attack is stopped by the three of them. Because of the life saving skills they have been trained with they stop the terrorist and save a passenger who was critically injured.
A good story just long.

Great stunts (1 more)
Brilliant car chase
Another hit MI film
I really enjoyed the last MI film Rogue Nation and thought that was a very high standard to beat. I would say this is nearly as good almost level with that film. It is a long film but the huge action scenes, chases, stunts and fights make the film fly by. The car and bike chases in Paris are epic! Good to see it follow on from the last film. There are only a couple of minor issues with predictable plot elements. Otherwise this is a fantastic action film, a true blockbuster.
