"Everything that [D.W.] Griffith made: Broken Blossoms, Intolerance, Birth of a Nation, you just name it. Everything. He’s the Shakespeare of cinema. Period. Watch his films and you’ll know instantly."

"Uncle Tom’s Cabin may be, today, the most misunderstood, misread American novel. I hope its vitality, generosity, and human warmth will carry it on past this period of prejudice and eclipse."

Elizabeth Bennett is sassy, strong, and feminine. The dark and broody Darcy is perfection . (0 more)
The circumstances the Bennett women find themselves in are a true reflection of the misogyny of the period, unfortunately. (0 more)
Kick-ass Heroine
This is a book about assumptions, about misunderstandings and miscommunication. It is a critique of the period as well as a portrait of it. It contains some of the most engaging and unforgettable characters in literature. I highly recommend it.

"For a period of time, I thought I might only make documentaries. Films like Gimme Shelter had a lot to do with this attitude. Why make narrative work when real life was so interesting? I loved the Maysles approach to filming; I loved the Rolling Stones during that period; I loved the controversy surrounding the film. It still kind of seems like the perfect movie. Anytime this is playing in the theater, I try to see it."

"It's strange, I don't really like the Medieval period however three of my favorite movies take place at that time: this one, Andreï Rublev by Andrei Tarkovsky and Marketa Lazarová by Frantisek Vlácil."

Great movie, very true to what soldiers experienced. Probably a contributing factor to Band of Brothers series which was also phenomenal. Well researched.

"This is another book about a man in Victorian England trying to reform and own the heart of a sex worker. It’s a theme for the Victorian period and it’s a theme for me as a reader and this psychosexual drama held my attention on every page. Very ornate descriptions of the main sexy girl’s chapped and bleeding lips, which I like. It is very rich with period sex details (the way they applied spermicide is haunting), which is primo for me."

It seems to have had an effect by taking on his techniques even in a short period of time. Currently cannot give 5 star until I can be sure it's worked but we will see.

Period gothic drama on superstition v science
A very good modern period gothic drama about how a town can convince itself about a mythical beast while confronting contemporary science.

In the centre of the entire story is a beautiful but complex relationship between a woman of science and a priest who on most occasions disagree with one another but learn to come to terms with each other's viewpoints. And in between their relationship is a withering wife and her autistic son. A multilayered novel rich with substance.

A good period crime drama as Tom Hanks plays a hitman with a difficult choice to make. Quite a long, slow film with not a lot of action but great stoytelling. It's very well made.
