Erika (17789 KP) rated Mad Men - Season 1 in TV
Jun 3, 2018
Mad Men is one of the first and only series I binge-watched. The first episode had me sucked in, after Don Draper's work day, for him to walk into his suburban home with the family that you didn't know existed until the last few minutes. It was so good, and I was hooked. I think that this season was probably the best, and gave us the gift that is Betty Draper shooting the birds in her nightgown. The costumes were period perfect, and Peggy was definitely my favorite female character.
The next Downtown
If you like Downton, you’ll love this. Witty, contemplative, And engaging, you are continually swept along with the narrative that transports you back to the time of Waterloo and the subsequent architectural development of an up and coming London society.
Occasionally the historical references to architectural nuances can prove a little dull and distract from the flow of the narrative, but the characters are engaging and the storylines keep you raptured to the end.

Deborah (162 KP) rated Forensic Shakespeare in Books
Dec 21, 2018
Forensic doesn't mean this is the Shakespeare equivalent of Silent Witness - this is a book looking at a group of Shakespeare's plays (and one poem), of which several are often considered 'problem' plays and the use of rhetoric within them. Skinner argues that this is deliberate and relates to a re-emerging interest in the Roman Rhetoricians in the Tudor period. The book is based on a series of lectures given by Skinner, so although as a casual reader I found it interesting, it was also hard work at times, particularly the opening chapters.
James Koppert (2698 KP) rated We Are The Romans by Botch in Music
Oct 30, 2019
One of the greatest of all time
We Are The Romans is simply one of the greatest albums of all time. Period. Their second studio album Botch took it up a notch. It's like discordant emo if it had only listened to Coalesce and took steroids. It's incredibly heavy but also beautiful. It's hard without being macho, it's orchestral without being over the top. I can listen to this album over and over again and never get bored, just constantly absorb the emotion it gives me. An incredible album.
AT (1676 KP) rated John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum (2019) in Movies
Jul 18, 2019
I liked John Wick chapter 3 for the action. However, I'll say that a few of the action sequences were drawn out a bit longer than necessary. The plot was simple, so it didn't get lost in between the fights. I didn't love Halle Berry's part, but loved the dogs, and the part that they played, eventually linking the two characters together, even if it was for a short period of time. I was honestly getting a little bored with the last major fight sequence, but I did really enjoy the ending!
Allison Knapp (118 KP) rated Century Hotel (2001) in Movies
Jan 20, 2019
Rain Maida from Our Lady Peace and his indie rock wife Chantal Kreviazuk playing off each other in an awkward manner throughout one of the storylines (3 more)
Many intriguing storylines to follow
Plenty of accurate cultural and time period related storylines
Interesting and diverse characters
Rare gem
The movie revolves around one hotel room over the case of several decades, from its inaugural tenants, to a chilling scenario on New Year's Eve of the new millennium. A masterpiece from Canada which is a rare find but totally worth it.
