Skwchance (13 KP) rated The Afterlife of Walter Augustus in Books
Nov 12, 2019
The story follows him and the women who found the book, Letty. She is a sad character who you want things to turn out good for.
The theory of the afterlife is fabulous and made me question whether I would want to stay there forever and be remembered or if I would want to risk moving into the final afterlife.
The characters made me want to shake them into being braver at times but are endearing. The plot is a bit crazy but there are lots of laughs and it is very creative.

The plot: Detective Riggs (Mel Gibson) tries to settle down with his pregnant girlfriend, Lorna (Rene Russo), while his partner, Murtaugh (Danny Glover), comes to grips with the marriage of his pregnant daughter, Rianne (Traci Wolfe), to fellow cop Butters (Chris Rock). But they find themselves and their families targeted by Chinese mobsters, led by Wah Sing Ku (Jet Li). Riggs, Murtaugh, Butters and private eye Getz (Joe Pesci) decide to go on the offensive before the gangsters get to their loved ones.
Like i said before its a beautiful send off for this franchise.

Awix (3310 KP) rated Men O'War (1929) in Movies
Feb 21, 2019
You can tell that the formula's not quite there yet, for there is much less emphasis on gleeful property damage and Ollie ending up the victim of Stan's various mishaps than you tend to find in their later films. Instead, there's more reliance on verbal comedy and elements of farce - the first part of the film revolves around a (for 1929) slightly saucy gag about a woman losing her underwear. Suffers a bit from the technical limitations of the period (the lengthy boat sequence at the end is filmed entirely in long shot) but still an ambitious and very funny film.
Awix (3310 KP) rated Biggles (1986) in Movies
Mar 28, 2018 (Updated Mar 28, 2018)
Potentially charming adventure movie is utterly torpedoed by fatal uncertainty of tone; what started off as a 'straight' period movie is reduced to gibberish by the addition of witless time-travel plotline, which drags crass 80s 'comedy' bits in with it. The fact it largely seems to be the work of people who've never actually seen a film before, let alone worked on one, is the just the coup de grace. Even Peter Cushing's usual near-supernatural ability to lift a dubious script mostly fails him; no wonder this was his final (non-CGI) big-screen appearance. Soundtrack contains Queen bassist John Deacon's only recordings away from the band; this is almost certainly not a good enough reason to watch the damn thing.
