great to catch up with these guys!
Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian, I was gifted my copy of this book.
This is book 3 in The Vampire Guard series, and I STRONGLY recommend you read Codename Jack Rabbit, and Quarry before this one. It will give you a better view of this group and who they are and what they do.
It's been a long time since I read the first 2 books, 6 years and 3 years and it took me a little bit of time to get back into this group, their dynamics and what they do, and what they are, but once I did, I thoroughly enjoyed it!
It gets a bit complicated, when they are talking about the endosymbiont and what it does and what it was meant for, but I kinda glazed over that bit. In all honesty, my mind wasn't comprehending it, so I didn't try to hard to understand the technical stuff!
The story flips from various times in the past, 1929/1940s and now, giving you a picture of things that have happened to get to this point, at the bottom of the ocean where they are fighting for their lives and I loved that. It gives us Kai and Ori in all their glory, who (but feel free to correct, it has been YEARS!) are a new introduction to the Guard (in terms of these books) and some Sohpia and Porter too, along with Jonas, Lucas, Declan and Blair.
It's quite violent, but dealing with mutated beings would be. And again, it's clean and I'm finding I like that about these books. There is love and feelings, cos you get that through the various bonded pairings as things move along but no actual smexy times and its not needed at all.
There is an epilogue. Said epilogue ends rather abruptly. Leading me to believe that not only will there be another book, but the endosymbiont will pop up again.
A thoroughly enjoyable read, a great catch up with these guys.

the strongest form when you least expect them.

This is the third book in the Bonded By Love trilogy, but it can be read as a stand alone. I do, however, recommend you read books 1, Caressa's Homecoming, and book 2, Cole's Reckoning, before this one. It will give you a better picture of Cole and Donovan's friendship and just how far they will go for each other.
After Donovan is injured when Cole got shot, he comes into contact with Tyson, a detective and Hamish, a psychologist. Boundaries are hard for Tyson and Hamish, but Donovna keeps pushing. When both Tyson and Hamish face disciplinary action for being with Donovan, will they see it out, or let each other go?
What I liked about this one, was the slow burn. Yes, Donovan wanted things to move much faster but professional boundaries were adhered to. Nothing happened between Donovan and Tyson, or Donovan and Hamish until AFTER their relationship was disclosed. Tyson and Hamish were a different kettle of fish!
I liked there was a clear difference in their leanings: Donovan is a Dom, Hamish a sub and Tyson, a switch. I liked that both Hamish and Tyson were willing to explore the BDSM scene but only with all three of them present, and that Donovan would walk away from the lifestyle entirely, if neither of them wanted it.
I was expecting more of the BDSM smexy stuff, given how Donovan comes across in the other two books, but it is limited to one scene in Cole's basement. There are plenty other smexy times though, once they are all in.
I was, again, feeling I missed some emotional connection. All three men have some baggage, but there was no clue as to them until the point when it was decided to talk about them, and I'm still not fully sure I understood it all.
Still, I enjoyed all three books, and do recommend them.

I've been into astrology for many years, usually preferring the more abundant Western zodiac because it's always been more accurate than the Chinese in my case. Willing to give it another chance, I figured maybe a new book on the subject, and the fact that besides the yearly animal, it also includes monthly and hourly animals as well, would enlighten me and prove my assumptions wrong. I'm sorry to say that they still don't sound like me at all, except for some aspects of my hourly animal.
As to the writing, at times it was overly complicated and I had to reread to make sure I got it, especially when it had to do with finding my hourly and monthly animals, luckily the chart is easy to understand. The descriptions of the animals aren't very in depth and they're repetitive, so it's not very illuminating and I've read more about them in other books. However, I do like that there are meditations that include a picture to show how it should be properly done and I probably will try it out.
It's a nice book and does help you find out more than your yearly animal, so it's a good starting place for those who are unfamiliar with Chinese astrology, but that's about it.
As to the writing, at times it was overly complicated and I had to reread to make sure I got it, especially when it had to do with finding my hourly and monthly animals, luckily the chart is easy to understand. How do you get power when you are born to less?
How do you get power when you are born to less? You take it. I love Pierce Brown's story of Darrow, a low red, rising above his color to infiltrate the golds to start an uprising. Red Rising is one of my favorite books. Even though the setting is on Mars it is still relevant to our society today. Some people are born more privileged than others and at times it take a miracle to overcome those obstacles. This book reminds us to fight for not only what we want, but for what is right.
This book has good momentum throughout. At no point was I bored by the story. The ending really builds for the second book, gently encouraging you to continue with the story. I've both read and listened to this book and recommend each. Listening after reading, allowed me to really paint a clearer picture of Mars in my mind and develop more love for the series.
I recommend this book to those who like The Hunger Games or Divergent. Additionally, if you are a fan of the movie Gattaca (1997), this will be right in your wheelhouse! The similarities are striking!

Lovely looking little book, smaller than I was expecting, but it is really nice. No dust jacket but a nice thick textured cover and inner pages that make you feel dizzy!
I read it this evening and I'll be completely honest - I was a bit disappointed, although it is a pretty book, it is also pretty thin - 128 pages.including a title page, printing information page, contents page, blank page, Overview, another blank page, 1 page mini bio, 105 quotes*, 4 pages of "By Terry Pratchett" lists.
I think that for £9.99 they could have found more than 105 "seriously funny" quotes from over 50 books and other sources - there isn't even one from each Discworld book. Even some illustrations would have been nice (9 repeats of the same hat picture is not very exciting).
Obviously as a collectore I had to buy it - as will most of us, does it does seem a bit of a "cash in" just to make money out of us, they are pretty much guaranteed to sell over a million copies so they could have made it more substantial for the money.
Still made me laugh out loud a couple of times though.
